Winemaker Notes

RP 94
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Concentrated black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, some high class, subtle toasty oak, graphite and a touch of blackberry and cassis all jump from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, formidably endowed, massive wine. It needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring. This could turn out to be one of the longest-lived wines ever made at Fonplegade, lasting 25-30 or more years.
Rating: 94+
WE 92
Wine Enthusiast
Very jammy fruit, where the sweetness seems to dominate. It is accessible, the tannins open, opulent, with a ripe structure. It works though, as a rich wine.
Barrel Sample: 90-92 Points
JS 91
James Suckling
Focused and precise, with pretty dark fruits and hints of vanilla. Full and silky. Very attractive.
Barrel Sample: 90-91 Points
WS 91
Wine Spectator
Dark linzer torte and currant preserves notes are allied to a solid graphite spine and backed by a licorice-infused finish. Drink now through 2021.

Chateau Fonplegade, St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France
Image of winery
For centuries, the vine rows of Chateau Fonplegade have been the source for some of Saint-Emilion’s most coveted winegrapes. Grown in ideal limestone and clay soils, and nourished in drier years by the deep under-ground water source that feeds the fountain of Fonplegade, their vines benefit from a harmonious relationship between the elements—a relationship that yields wines of uncommon grace and grandeur. As stewards of these cherished vine rows, they cultivate their vineyards using strict ECOCERT organic practices, both to preserve the purity and character of their grapes, and to ensure the legacy of Chateau Fonplegade for generations to come.
