        Winemaker Notes

        COLOUR Warm honey/golden syrup

BODY Medium weight, the texture is as smooth as the pebbles on the beach outside the Distillery, yet the power of the west coast is very evident.

NOSE Distinctive and intriguing, it opens slowly like a sunrise over Jura, then it picks up beautiful aromas of fresh flowers, heather and yellow gorse. Wait a little and you will find fudge, crème brûlée, dried banana and a snap of sherry.

Unfolding throughout, the Loch Indaal sea air drifts in as quiet and gentle as the men who make it.

PALATE A real honest old style whisky flavour is immediately apparent. Lots of sweet malt, digestive biscuits, butterscotch, tropical fruit.

Lashings of oak and a sprinkle of sea spray and dry seaweed remind you of its 15 maturation years by the ocean. It's Islay without the hammer. Full of style and sophistication.

FINISH As Scotland's most westerly Distillery, the spirit has seen many sunsets and the finish reflects this warmth and emotion as it lingers gently on the palate.

        Bruichladdich, Other
Bruichladdich was built at an ideal location on the edge of Loch Indaal, on the most westerly point of Islay, by the brothers Robert William and John Harvey in 1881. At the time it was a state-of-the-art plant, and structurally it has remained very much the same ever since - with some of the original equipment still in use. After several corporate amalgamations over the last thirty years, it was found to be "surplus to requirements", and was closed down in 1995; it has been silent ever since. That is, until now..... These pages tell the story of how the Distillery was rescued, the people behind it, their philosophy, experience, beliefs, and their ideas for the future. In a world where 'style over substance' seems to be the modus operandi of the marketing-led society in which we live, this is very much a story of.... substance - over style.

The wine world is vast and constantly expanding. With shifts in climate, fashion, and technology, new regions are constantly developing and experimenting to learn which varieties work best on which vineyard sites. Often, since these regions have yet to gain worldwide popularity, they are great sources for the savvy consumer looking to try something new and interesting at a budget-friendly price.
