Winemaker Notes

Blended from a selection of six different clones of Pinot Noir in vintages of exceptional quality. This is the estate's top cuvée, named for the winemaker's mother. Though the wine is showing generous aromas and flavors now, Doug says in 3 or 4 years the benefits from integration will be evident. This cuvee has more whole-clustered fruit and sees a bit more oak than the other cuvees. In general, the Brick House wines are picked slightly earlier than their neighbors, so as to produce a delicate profile that complements food.

Critical Acclaim

WS 95
Wine Spectator
Focused, juicy, precise and expressive, offering a gorgeously balanced mouthful of plum, currant, red berry and floral notes that come together harmoniously and persist on the long finish. Shows depth and distinction. Best from 2016 through 2022.
RP 93
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
. It has a perfumed, sensual bouquet with tightly wound brambly red berry fruit laced with lavender and rose petal, the oak nicely assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite crisp and tensile in the mouth with touches of orange rind infusing the red berry fruit. Probably the most masculine of the 2012s but it will require a couple of year's in barrel.

Brick House Vineyards was established in 1990. The vineyards are surrounded by the fruit and hazelnut orchards above the Chehalem Valley, the rolling hills at Brick House compose just such a place. A New World site dedicated to Old World wisdom, and a way of growing grapes proven over a thousand years or more. At Brick House, "organically grown" is more than just a phrase on the labels of the wines. All of the fruit is estate grown. All of it is certified organic.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
