Winemaker Notes

This 100% Monastrell shows extraordinary expression of the variety.

It will pair well with fish in sauce, various meats and cheeses.

RP 91
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Tarima made from non-organic Monastrell is sensational. From an area dominated by cooperatives, this full-bodied blockbuster boasts plenty of blue and black fruit notes, impressive purity and an enticing texture as well as length. It is hard to believe that wines such as this can be found for under $10 a bottle.

The Spanish enologist, Rafael Canizares seeks to achieve the maximum expression of the Tempranillo grape grown in the environment. This winery is located in the best terroir of La Mancha found in the eastern region of the Denomination of Origin. The soil is the reason that the winery committed themselves to purchasing 228 acres of vineyards with an average age of 40 years. The sandy soils (up to 1 meter in depth) has an underlayment of large river stones.

Negroamaro

View all wine

Full-bodied and brimming with dark fruit, Negroamaro actually doesn’t taste much like what its name indicates, “bitter and black.” Instead it is typically brimming with fruit like baked plum, raspberry jam and sweet red cherry. Negroamaro doesn’t have a lot of bitter tannins but more commonly gives a smooth and powerful mouth feel, accented with sweet aromas like cinnamon and anise.

This dark-skinned southern Italian grape variety is found on the eastern half of the Salento peninsula, which is the backside of Italy’s “boot heel.” Negroamaro forms the base (along with Malvasia nera and Primitivo) of the most well known wine of the area, Salice Salentino. It can also produce single varietal reds as well as some impressive aromatic and spicy rosé wines.

Try one with an easy pizza night or instead of a Chianti with pasta.
