Winemaker Notes

This Cornas is from a single parcel of very old vine (80 years) on a beautiful granitic soil. Thanks to the age of vines and their very deep roots in the poor soil, there is a maximal expression of this terroir via the Syrah.

The Wine Advocate

With the brilliant oenologist who worked for Michel Chapoutier for many years, Alberic Mazoyers, now firmly installed at Domaine Alain Voge, these wines are taking off in a spectacular manner (not that they weren’t very impressive in previous vintages). An absolutely monumental Cornas, and one of the finest wines I have tasted from this provincial/rustic appellation is the opaque purple-colored 2005 Cornas Cuvee Vieilles Fontaines. Full-bodied with extraordinary concentration, notes of scorched earth, roasted meats, sweet cassis, blackberry, truffle as well as charcoal, the wine is intense, with majestic depth and texture and a long, rich, full, powerful finish. This is truly stunning stuff that should prove to be a monumental effort in this vintage. It should age effortlessly for 15+ years. 92-95

Alain Voge
Since its inception, several generations ago, Domaine Alain Voge has always been a family domain located in Cornas. In 1958, Alain Voge joined his father to work on the small typical farm. He decided to specialise in wine.

At the time, it was an audacious decision: despite their history, the Cornas and Saint Peray appellations were forgotten sleeping beauties. Very quickly, he extended the vineyards in places which had remained uncultivated over the last 30 years and developed the sales of his bottled wines. Supported by his wife Eliane, he visited the best national and regional restaurants to make his wines known.

Thanks to their quality and to Alain Voge’s creative approach, the domain’s reputation has rapidly increased. Yesterday, as today and tomorrow, our philosophy is to practice a hand made viticulture on the slopes of the Rhône right bank, dedicated to Syrah and Marsanne. Our wines are the expression of their terroir, for the pleasure of lovers, all over the world.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
