Winemaker Notes
A soft, supple and precocious wine, the 1998 Adastra Merlot is comparatively more developed in its youth than its three predecessors. A nose of roses, plums and dark chocolate is confirmed on the palate where joyously silky tannins, dark cherries and black tea combine with balanced acids and a hint of toastiness to create a deeply pleasurable gustatory experience. Like the previous vintages of Adastra Merlot, this estate-grown wine has a rich, enticing hue, best savored with food and friends.

We took our name, Adastra, from the Latin phrase per aspera ad astra, "through striving to the stars," inspired by the brilliant Carneros night sky and our own stellar ambitions.
