Winemaker Notes

Dragon Vineyard is an estate-owned and certified organic vineyard. Planted at 2400 feet at one of the highest points on Howell Mountain, the vineyard sits well above the fog line and faces east. These important features, along with the rocky, red volcanic soil, make for a very unique, full-bodied and powerful Zinfandel that ages beautifully.

Bright red-ruby. Crushed berries and licorice on the nose and palate, accented by lavender and Provencal herbs. Densely packed, sweet and layered, offering a compelling savory quality and a distinctly chewy texture. For all its considerable sweetness, the very long finish remains remarkably vibrant. The serious ripe tannins give this wine the underpinning for a graceful evolution in bottle. Larry Turley recommends pairing this with lamb shoulder done with garlic and thyme.>br> 94+

Turley Wine Cellars Winery Image

Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley and makes forty-seven wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture.

All of Turley’s vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and the winery uses all natural yeasts in the fermentations.

Turley aims to be stewards of some of California’s most distinctive vineyards, producing authentic wines that reflect their heritage.
