Winemaker Notes
Complex and stylish, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and pencil shavings. This wine is bone dry, yet exhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish. Already drinking well, and will develop for 8 years.
A perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, especially with a Béarnaise sauce and rocket salad.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Blended with a generous dollop of 15% Petit Verdot, the 2011 Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon has a fresh, slightly minty blackberry and red plum-scented bouquet with a touch of cedar and tobacco coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with a tobacco-tinged entry. I like the acidity here, nice and fresh, quite linear in the mouth with a welcome graphite tinged on the finish that has moderate length. Enjoy this over the next 5-7 years.

Wine Spectator
Mature and suave, with warm espresso and singed tobacco notes peeling out from the core of lightly mulled currant and blackberry fruit. Lingering black tea and charcoal accents score the finish. Still has legs.

Wine & Spirits
Wine, heat and drought made for a challenging 2011 season in the Cape, but the maturity of the tannins made it possible to produce some exceptional wines - like this plummy, silken cabernet. It has brightness to balance all the sweet juiciness, and shows refinement in its cushioned tannins. A rich wine for braised game.

Wine
In 1983, Gyles Webb and his wife's family purchased a run-down fruit farm at the top of the Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch, where they established Thelema Mountain Vineyards. At a time when the South African wine scene was focused on quantity rather than quality, Webb was a trailblazing pioneer on a mission to craft world-class wines. Construction began on the winery in 1987, and Thelema produced its first vintage in 1988. Situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg, Thelema occupies mainly south-facing aspects that afford spectacular views of the Simonsberg, Drankenstein and Jonkershoek mountains. Elevations ranging from 370 to 640 meters above sea-level make the 157-hectare estate one of the coolest and highest wine farms in Stellenbosch.
