Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The nose is complex and reflects the blending of the four varietals; very elegant and fragrant. Aromas of red fruits ofcurrant, raspberry, cherry with sweet oak, a very delicatesmokiness, a touch of bay leaf and barley water. The mouth-feeldelivers medium body and elegance. Red fruit flavors, some nicespices, including white pepper, and delicate truffle notes, evolveinto a long finish that delivers cherry pit and cola.

Blend: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc.

The 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Rabicano from Yountville is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc. A dense purple color is followed by sweet blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with a note of spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannins, outstanding concentration and overall balance and equilibrium, this impressively endowed, serious red merits attention. Consume it over the next 6-10 years.

Tamber Bey Winery Image
Vintner Barry Waitte founded Tamber Bey Vineyards in 1999, when he purchased a 60-acre vineyard in the Yountville Appellation and an 11-acre property in the renowned Oakville Appellation. This marked Waitte’s entry into the wine business as a grower. He immediately hired vineyard manager Josh Clark to plant and farm the properties with the goal of growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Dijon Chardonnay.

A visit to the Tamber Bey winery is like nothing else in Napa Valley. The winery is located at the Sundance Ranch in Calistoga, a world-class, 22-acre equestrian facility that is dedicated to training top performance horses. The winery was built in 2013 by remodeling a 15,000-square-foot covered riding arena into a state-of-the-art winemaking facility with a crush pad that houses 36 fermentation tanks sized for individual vineyard-designated wines.
