Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The flagship wine, the 2007 Cask 23 Estate is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and production is usually between 1,500-1,600 cases. Displaying finesse, power and measured restraint, this deep dark plum/purple-tinged 2007 reveals notes of black currants, Asian spices, sweet plums, Christmas fruitcake and cedar. A medium to full-bodied, delicate but substantial beauty.

Wine Enthusiast
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in mostly new French oak, this is a very elaborate wine. It's quite good, a full-bodied, powerful Cab with a molten core of blackberries and black currants and, of course, a thick, dry layer of firm tannins. It does not seem to have quite the depth of vintages from certain earlier vintages, but it should develop nicely in the cellar over the next decade or longer.

Wine & Spirits
An elegant vintage of Cask 23, this supple cabernet has impressive purity to its fruit in the dark sweetness of black cherries, accented by hints of violets and mint. Oak enhances the structure rather than dominating it. Blended from two vineyards in the heart of the Stags Leap District—S.L.V. and Fay—the wine has the soft layers of tannin cabernet can achieve in this corner of the Napa Valley. The fruit will rest comfortably under that blanket of tannin as the wine ages.

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Learn about Stags Leap history and estate-grown wines.
History of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 with the purchase of a 40 acre property in the now famed Stag’s Leap District AVA in Napa Valley. The winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley region when their 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris."
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Estate-Grown Cabernet Sauvignon
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The Cabernet wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach often described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove."
