Winemaker Notes

This Pinot Noir is a quintessential expression of Santa Barbara County’s cool-climate vines, with its elegant, light-bodied style. Delicate aromas hint at the bright red cherry and strawberry flavors on the palate. Beautifully balanced with vibrant acidity, this wine is the ideal complement for grilled salmon, lamb and earthy mushrooms. Aged in small oak tanks, creating the perfect balance of delicate varietal flavor, crisp acidity and nuanced oak notes in this coastal Pinot Noir. Our home vineyard in Los Alamos is comprised almost entirely of sand. The soil heats up quickly, giving the grapes more time to develop.

Dried black cherry, iron, smoke and dried herbs show on the nose of this bottling. There is lively acidity on the palate, carrying flavors of dried raspberry, rose petals and oregano.

Pinot Noir is the second-most planted grape in Santa Barbara County, just behind Chardonnay. It thrives in cooler areas of the region, namely in the of the Sta. Rita Hills, which is part of Santa Barbara’s larger Santa Ynez Valley sub-appellation. Thought for decades to be too cool for viticulture, Sta. Rita Hills began to gain notoriety in the 1970’s, thanks to the pioneering work of Richard Sandford and Michael Benedict, among others.

Santa Barbara Pinot Noir dances across the palate with vivid red fruit and spice. Precision, bright acidity, elegance and fruit-driven silkiness make Santa Barbara Pinot delightfully enjoyable, whether on their own or with a variety of dishes.
