Winemaker Notes
This elegantly balanced wine is deep and dark with a purple hue. Aromas of ripe cassis and black currant combine seamlessly with sweet notes of spice. The palate is ripe and soft, with pronounced cherry liquor, lush tannin's and sweet, subtle oak. Black currant builds on the finish.

Wine Spectator
Juicy and focused, featuring red and black currant fruit, entwined with licorice, bramble and sweet tobacco notes. Subtle singed juniper and sassafras details chime through the background. Best from 2021 through 2032.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 8% Merlot, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Selection has a deep garnet color, sashaying out of the glass with flirtatious scents of crème de cassis, kirsch, Black Forest cake and cinnamon stick plus suggestions of cigar box, fragrant soil and dried rose petals. Full-bodied, rich and decadently spicy in the mouth, it coats the palate with black fruit preserves and plush tannins, finishing long and perfumed.?

COMMENTARY: While I have always found the Rombauer Vineyards Diamond Selection Cabernet Sauvignon formidable, I have generally found its tannins a bit hard to navigate. The 2016 vintage shows a fine resolution of tannins. Its well-built aromas and flavors of black fruits, cassis, and oak should pair it famously with the first cut of a prime rib roast. This has a very fresh array of vibrant, ripe-fruit aromas with a sense of sleek and plush tannin and a silky textural feel. A vibrant, elegant and plush array of fine, smooth tannins deliver intense and focused, dark-berry flavors at the finish. Drink or hold.

Guide
Connoisseurs'
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
