Powers Syrah 2000

Tasting Notes: Intense, darkly extracted color with complex aromas of blackberry, raspberry, black currant and toasty oak. Very full-bodied style with flavors of berries, cassis, plums and a hint of cocoa. Long, crisp, intense finish of ripe berries and black plum.

Winemaker's Notes: We were fortunate to pick a great year to produce our first Syrah. With three very different vineyards to choose from to make the final blend, we produced a complex wine with a broad flavor profile. 75% of the blend is from Milbrandt Vineyard, a very warm site on the Wahluke Slope. 18% is from Pleasant Vineyard in the cooler zone north of Prosser in the Yakima Valley. The final 7% is from our own Mercer Ranch Vineyard, one of the warmest microclimates in the state. The Milbrandt and Mercer portions were blended and put into new French oak barrels immediately following harvest.
