Wine Enthusiast
Concentrated and focused, it is expressive right out of the bottle, supple and clearly defined. Floral, darkly fruited, bursting with black cherry and cassis, detailed with licorice and stone, this excellent wine will be difficult to put away for aging, but well worth the effort.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2006 Pirouette features winemakers Agustin Huneeus and Philippe Melka. It is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 5% Syrah aged for 22 months in 70% new French oak. Saturated purple in color, it offers aromas of wood smoke, earth notes, spice box, plum, black currant, and blueberry. The wine is seamless upon entry with incipient complexity and the structure to evolve for 5-7 years. It will offer a drinking window extending 2015 to 2031.

Wine & Spirits
Pirouette is the Long Shadows bottling made in partnership with Agustin Huneeus and his winemaker, Philippe Melka. This blend is just over half cabernet sauvignon, with the balance merlot, petit verdot, cabernet franc and syrah. Its scents of mulling spices and gingerbread lead to fresh, dark flavors of currants and plums. Ferrous tannins and brisk acidity support all the fruit. A roast beef wine if there ever was one.

Wine
Philippe Melka is one of a handful of Napa Valley winemakers with the Midas touch. Philippe and Agustin Huneeus, Sr. teamed to combine the traditions of old-world winemaking, the advancements of new world technology, and small lots from Washington State’s finest vineyards to craft this enticing red blend.
Pirouette is one of six distinct red wines from Long Shadows Vintners - a collection of ultra-premium wines, each built on the unique expertise of some of the world’s most knowledgeable winemakers to showcase the quality and caliber of Washington State’s Columbia Valley.
Since the beginning, Long Shadows' Director of Winemaking and Viticulture Gilles Nicault, has overseen the operations of the winery and worked closely with the vintners to bring each winemaker’s vision to completion. Internationally renowned winemakers Randy Dunn (Feather Cabernet Sauvignon); John Duval (Sequel Syrah); Philippe Melka (Pirouette Red Wine); and Michel Rolland (Pedestal Merlot) are active partners in their respective wines. Gilles now crafts Poet’s Leap Riesling and Saggi, a Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, in styles that remain true to their original winemakers, Armin Diel and Giovanni Folonari respectively. Gilles crafts Chester-Kidder, a Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah blend, independently.
Gilles works closely with the state’s top growers to execute a diverse winemaking protocol at Long Shadows’ state-of-the-art facility in Walla Walla to produce wines of exceptional quality, true to the Columbia Valley’s terroir.
