Winemaker Notes

The 2010 Howell Mountain Cabernet is a multifaceted wine which represents our Howell Mountain Estate at its fullest. The wine has a dark purple color with a solid core. Boysenberry, black currant, rum raisin, crushed granite, and violet aromas are bright and lively. Expressive fruit concentrates on the palate with dark chocolate, wild blackberry jam and crème di cassis being followed by a long complex finish with balanced tannins and good acidity. An extracted wine that is rewarding upon release but will continue to improve with cellaring.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain covers every inch of the palate with layers of deep, rich, dark fruit. Blueberries, blackberries, violet and cloves seem to pop right out of the glass in this juicy, extroverted wine. Deceptively approachable, the 2010 has plenty of tannin lurking beneath its massive fruit. I would not be surprised if the 2010 shuts down in bottle. It is one of the deepest, inkiest 2010s I tasted from Howell Mountain. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.

O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery sits at 1,800 feet on the heralded Howell Mountain appellation in the beautiful Napa Valley. Founded in 1996, the estate encompasses one hundred and twenty acres. Winemaker Sean Capiaux has overseen the planting of the vineyard and selected numerous clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and all seven of the historic Bordeaux varietals for this unique property.

O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery uses modern equipment to produce non-interventionist wines that are naturally fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered. These techniques allow the varietal character and terroir of O’Shaughnessy Estate vineyards to be the stars of the show.
