A bright and fresh yet complex young semillon. It has lemons and white nectarines gently dressed in some biscuity and nutty aromas. The palate has bright acid spark and a fleshy smooth build into the finish. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

COMMENTARY: The 2017 Moss Wood Wilyabrup Semillon is an excellent wine. TASTING NOTES: This wine is zesty and bright. Enjoy its distinctive aromas and flavors of zesty citrus and savory spices with longneck clam sashimi with thinly-sliced scallions and light soy. (Tasted: February 5, 2019, San Francisco, CA)
Moss Wood was established as a specialist, high-quality winery. This was its raison d’être and still provides the motivation for its continued existence. The proprietors of Moss Wood, Clare and Keith Mugford, have been making wine and tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 and 1979, respectively. It is their belief that all decisions made in the vineyard, or at the winery, are based on the effect they will have on the quality of the wine. As a new wine producing area, Margaret River has a short viticultural history, therefore winemakers need to be continually reassessing their soil management practices and the performance of their vines if they are to understand the viticulture of the region and obtain the best results in the vineyard. The Moss Wood and Mugford names are synonymous with uncompromising quality.
Sémillon has the power to create wines with considerable structure, depth and length that will improve for several decades. It is the perfect partner to the vivdly aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. Sémillon especially shines in the Bordeaux region of Sauternes, which produces some of the world’s greatest sweet wines. Somm Secret—Sémillon was so common in South Africa in the 1820s, covering 93% of the country’s vineyard area, it was simply referred to as Wyndruif, or “wine grape.”
Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
