Winemaker Notes
There’s something so unique about this bottling. It starts with the white flower, peppery, vanilla-tinged aromatic. The sweet black and purple fruits jump start the palate until the acidity of the site kicks in adding cut and a broad, ethereal feel that’s uncommon in hillside Napa Cabernet. The acidity keeps the mouthfeel juicy and fresh. The real complexity kicks in on the finish with blackcurrant liqueur, crushed rock, milk chocolate, cassis, blueberries and smoke all balanced by a streak of minerality that extends through the whole palate experience.

The 2018 Materium comes from the Weitz Vineyard in Oakville and is all Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in mostly new barrels. It's a very different wine than the Amoenus release and has more elegant, seamless aromas and flavors of crème de cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, flowery incense, and sandalwood. Château Margaux-like in its elegance and complexity, this brilliant wine has loads of sweet fruit, flawless integration of its tannins and acidity, flawless balance, and just a heavenly overall profile that I wish every reader could taste. This extraordinary effort can be drunk today or cellared for 30 years or more.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Materium Cabernet Sauvignon soars out of the glass with a gorgeous perfume of cinnamon toast, red roses, dusty soil and lavender over a core of warm cassis, kirsch and black raspberries. Full-bodied, rich, plush and oh-so-spicy, it is jam-packed with black and red fruit preserves layers, finishing with a fantastically long, fragrant finish.

In 2002, Daimler AG revitalized the Maybach brand in recognition of the father and son who together played such a monumental role in defining German engineering.
100 years later, the name Maybach remains synonymous with quality at the finest level. The tradition of individuality and craftsmanship established by the Maybach ancestors, the winery continues to honor with with its hand-made wines.
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
