Le Filigare is the name of the hill, overlooking the village of San Donato in Poggio, where the estate is located; the main hamlet was built in the 11th century. During the summer of 1857 the Duke of Tuscany hosted Pope Pius IX who enjoyed the wonderful wines and olive oil of our farm. The reason for this invitation is easy to understand: the estate is situated on a hill creating a natural terrace on one of the finest vineyards in the world, Chianti Classico , where we have been making wine since 1300. Now the estate is part of the properties of Cassetti Burchi family from Florence who, from the 80’s, has continued to produce high quality wine with dedication and passion. Alessandro, the third generation, is now managing the company. From the 90s, he has been following the building renovation and has obtained BIO certification for the extra virgin olive oil and wine products.
Our production process follows time-proven traditions integrated with the most modern technology.During the harvest, we mechanically separate grapes from stalk, ready to go to the winery. The winery houses steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation and concrete-frame glass tanks for malolactic fermentation.Every year, our enologist selects the best wood barrels for the ageing process for our Chianti Classico Riserva and Gran Selezione.
Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
