Winemaker Notes

A beautiful deep red ruby color. Elegant and complex nose, opening towards intense fruit with herbs and spices, with elegant and well-integrated oak to finish. Classic structure, with elegant and long tannins, with more flavors of fruit and black spices. Long lasting finish, with a velvety aftertaste.

Sweet blackberries, brambleberries and cigar tobacco with fresh flowers. Some cedar and mahogany, too. Full bodied with chewy tannins and chocolate, walnut and lightly toasted flavors. It’s just starting to come around. First commercially released wine from old-vine cabernet sauvignon, grown on its own rootstock with the vast majority from 1910. Originally it was just for the owners to drink. Fantastic. 12,000 bottles made.

A brand new wine created by Andrea León and Charles de Bournet from a parcel of century-old vines directly planted in the poor soils of Apalta, this is a tribute to the French spirit of the winery that takes full advantage of the quality of Cabernet from the region. Complex aromas of blueberries, blackcurrants, sweet spices and tobacco are followed by a good body, precise acidity, fine tannins and a liquorice aftertaste.

This late-release red is in an ideal drinking state, but still has room to grow. Everything is harmoniously integrated into a complex and elegant package, showing loam, balsam and dried chrysanthemum aromas, with a concentrated core of blackberry, cherry, cassis and olive flavors that linger effortlessly around suave tannins. This also reveals notes of kirsch and dark chocolate. Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lapostolle Winery Video

Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle (DBL) is one of Chile’s most dynamic and influential winemakers. The Lapostolle family began producing fine wine and spirits in France in 1827. In 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle, sixth generation family member, and her husband Cyril de Bournet, were one of the first to see the potential of Apalta Valley’s terroirs in Chile for producing high quality red varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot. In 2005, DBL’s icon wine Clos Apalta made history by becoming the first and only South American wine to date to ever be ranked #1 of the famous Top100 of Wine Spectator. Alexandra and Cyril were joined by their son, Charles de Bournet, in their simple as ambitious goal: to create world-class wines using French winemaking philosophy and the superb terroirs of Apalta. Charles has done extensive work in introducing Syrah and Rose varietals, such as Cinsault and Grenache, terroirs analysis, and sustainable practices throughout Apalta. World renowned winemaker, Michel Rolland, has been consulting at DBL since the beginning and works with Charles to produce wines that express the family’s taste and the unique terroirs of Apalta.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Rapel Valley, Chile

View all products

Well-regarded for intense and exceptionally high quality red wines, the Colchagua Valley is situated in the southern part of Chile’s Rapel Valley, with many of the best vineyards lying in the foothills of the Coastal Range.

Heavy French investment and cutting-edge technology in both the vineyard and the winery has been a boon to the local viticultural industry, which already laid claim to ancient vines and a textbook Mediterranean climate.

The warm, dry growing season in the Colchagua Valley favors robust reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec and Syrah—in fact, some of Chile’s very best are made here. A small amount of good white wine is produced from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
