Winemaker Notes

We strive for an old vine Agrelo terroir-driven Malbec that is very complex and age-worthy. In each bottle of Lamadrid we open a door and discover a world of unique experiences and sensations.

Saturated on the nose, this has aromas of pencil lead, coconut, vanilla and black fruit. It feels tannic, with pulsing acidity pushing raisin, prune, black plum, licorice and graphite flavors. The finish is oaky, resiny and chocolaty tasting.

Lamadrid Winery Video

Lamadrid Estate Wines comes from a delicate balance between the work at the vineyard and the vinification process. There are dedicated people in both fields and Guillermo García Lamadrid and Hector Durigutti, Master Winemaker and General Manager, devote a lot of time and effort in these areas. Durigutti and García Lamadrid have developed a close working relationship and partnership crucial for the early success of our Lamadrid brand.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
