    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

This wine expresses unique aromatic complexity and elegance. Rich red fruits are dominant with floral and spice notes to create an ever-evolving wine in the glass. Aromas of Bing cherry, plum and strawberry dominate the nose. As the wine opens, layers of floral and spice emerge showing violet, sage, sweet orange zest and a hint of graphite. The palate, silky and balanced, reveals rich raspberry and plum with a touch of cocoa. The finish is long and creamy with ample tannin and a hint of toast.

    Kokumi, California
Kokumi Wines specializes in crafting small lot Pinot Noirs from the Sonoma Coast appellations. The winery's goal is to express the character of the vineyard and vintage and to craft lush, balanced wines that are ever evolving.

Kokumi is a Japanese word describing a flavor concept -- not a taste in and of itself, but a sensation of richness and balance, enhancing the taste experience.

The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.

Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
