Winemaker Notes

Kendall-Jackson's Grand Reserve Merlot is crafted with grapes hand-selected from specific areas of their Jackson Estates Grown vineyards in Sonoma County. An intense concentration of black fruit and dark chocolate is enhanced by 18 months of oak barrel aging. There is seductive fruit tone on the nose and a long, velvety finish.

Blend: 95% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot

COMMENTARY: One of the most critical aspects of Merlot is the wine's ability to remain true its grape variety. The 2014 Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Merlot—made from 95% Merlot—is quite fine and represents a beautiful expression of this grape variety. TASTING NOTES: This wine is bright, fresh, and decidedly serious. Its ripe fruit, pencil lead, and overall brightness of flavors make it an excellent wine match with an oven-baked pork tenderloin. (Tasted: July 5, 2018, San Francisco, CA)

Kendall-Jackson, California
Kendall-Jackson Celebrate with Kendall-Jackson Winery Video

Back in 1974, Jess Jackson saw in the fine vineyards of California's cool coastal regions fruit with a variety of outstanding flavors. What if there was a way to produce from this abundance, a single outstanding "cuvée" that offered both quality and value? The result, first released in 1983, was Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, a rich, round and flavorful wine, made with hand-crafted methods. That same year, Grand Reserve was introduced, a line of ultra-premium wines that represented the full potential of California's finest vineyards and winemaking.

Today, over 5,000 acres of vineyard in California's coastal regions are farmed by Kendall-Jackson. Four separate wineries house what is possibly the single largest barrel-fermentation project in the world. But perhaps most important, is that Kendall-Jackson remains a family-owned winery.
