Winemaker Notes

A rich ruby-garnet color denotes the deep and serious concentration of this wine. The combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot has produced a complex array of fruit and oak nuanced aromas and flavors. Pomegranate, currants, and black cherries waft from the glass with hints of dark chocolate, orange peel, and sweet baking spices. The architecture of the wine is elegant, but with robust tannins demonstrating a structure which is both accessible and built to age gracefully. The grapes were sourced from Carneros, Spring Mountain and Rutherford Districts of Napa.

Blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot

COMMENTARY: The 2017 Hindsight 20/20 Retrospective Proprietary Red is nicely-built and firm on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers well-positioned aromas and flavors of savory spices, red, and black fruits. Pair it with a mild-seasoned lamb stew. (Tasted: August 25, 2020, San Francisco, CA)

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
