I preferred this to Harris's more expensive Treva's Cab because it's not as tannic, offering more immediate pleasure in an opulent, classy way. Soft and charming, yet with an intense structure, the wine is beautiful in blackberry, cherry, anise, green olive and vanilla oak flavors that finish complex and dry.

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Jake’s Creek Vineyard (360 cases) has closed down considerably since bottling, and was so virile, masculine, and tannic that I could not rate it as highly as the barrel sample tasted last year. There is a lot going on, but the wine is extremely backward. Its dense purple color is accompanied by a tight but promising nose of smoke, black fruits, graphite, chocolate, and espresso roast. Dark, broodingly backward, and tannic, but also extremely concentrated.

Heritage School Vineyards, California
Heritage School Vineyards (formerly Harris Estate Vineyards) are a small producer of premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Calistoga AVA. They have three estate-grown vineyards planted in the diverse terrain of their 48-acre property. The wines from these vineyards are crafted by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and perfectly reflect the terroir of the Franz Valley area. Once a private boys school, the sprawling property offers a glimpse into the hard work and dedication we have put forth into Heritage School Vineyards. The vineyards and wine have become a true way of living for the owners that Harris Estate Vineyards hopes to share with you.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
