Winemaker Notes
The rich deep ruby color of the 2017 California Cabernet Sauvignon leads to aromas of blackberry and blueberry fruit with sweet vanillin oak and a hint of mint. Rich and decadent on the palate with an elegance both voluptuous and tannic. Flavors of blueberry and black cherry are underlain by a fine seam of acidity and soft tannins that continue to a lingering finish.
Pairs well with beef tenderloin, Ratatouille, leg of lamb, and grilled Portobello mushrooms.
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Zinfandel

James Suckling
A fruity red with plum, chocolate and berry aromas and flavors. Medium body, round tannins and a fruity finish. A year or two in bottle will improve it. Try in 2021.

Wine Enthusiast
This firm-textured wine has a wonderful, classic nose of mint, black currants and black cherries followed by a full body and lush mouthfeel. It feels balanced by fine-grained tannins and good fruit acidity that adds freshness.

Founded in 1880 as California’s 29th bonded winery, Geyser Peak Winery has more than 135 years of winemaking history in Sonoma County. Originally located perched on a hillside across from Geyser Peak Mountain, its namesake, it commanded a view of the thermal steam clouds that billowed from the mountain summit. Here, in this special place, geothermal activity created the diverse soil pro?les that make this region so exceptionally well suited to wine grape cultivation.
At the forefront of production since its earliest days, Geyser Peak wines are sourced from prime vineyards that capture the essence of Sonoma. Today, located in Dry Creek Valley, Geyser Peak’s winemakers are carrying the winery’s rich history forward and staking an exciting claim on the future. Specializing in aromatic whites and rich reds, wines are crafted in small lots and fermented separately, then blended together to achieve full expression, balance and character. Each wine captures the essence of Sonoma and the appellation’s unique terroir, offering sophistication and ease, elevation and approachability, and taking us from casual days to connoisseur nights.
Covering the most vine acreage in the state compared to any other red wine variety, Cabernet Sauvignon produces as much wine in California as Merlot and Pinot Noir combined. The state’s diverse terrain and microclimates, as well as the freedom of its winemakers, allow for an incredible range of wine styles from this single grape.
California’s most famous region—and especially for Cabernet Sauvignon—is the acclaimed Napa Valley. While Cabernet is successful throughout the world, rarely has it achieved such merit as it does from the Napa Valley. At this point the two are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other.
Napa’s closest neighbor, Sonoma County, does an impressive job keeping up with Napa’s fame and glory. Alexander Valley, Sonoma Mountain, Moon Mountain and Knights Valley contribute to the lot of some of California’s top-rated Cabernet Sauvignon.
Lake County in California’s North Coast has become a focus for some of Napa’s more respected growers. From the Central Coast come iconic examples of classic California Cabernet; Lodi and the Sierra Foothills are great budget-friendly sources of amicable Cabernets.
