Winemaker Notes

The iridescent colors of the glass stopper create sublime light effects, enhancing this rosé. An elegant wine with a lovely bright pink color. The intensity of the fruit highlights the aromas. Strawberry and cherry complexes, with some hints of licorice. Breadth and roundness astonishing in the mouth are balanced by the freshness of this vintage. Lively and elegant, the finish persists on notes of red berries.

Serve this wine alongside grilled meat, fish or Mediterranean salads.

COMMENTARY: The 2020 Gérard Bertrand Source of Joy Rosé is bright, pleasing, and satisfying. TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits lively aromas and flavors of red fruit and a hint of earthiness. Pair it with smoked salmon sashimi. (Tasted: June 6, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

Fresh pressed garrigue herbs are partnered with light cherry, strawberry and Asian pear on the nose of this well-balanced rosé. Powder and baby’s breath add some floral depth. The palate is balanced in soft yet lifting acidity and ripe fruit tones, finishing clean and dry with just a touch of mouthwaring sensation.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

An extensive appellation producing a diverse selection of good quality and great values, Languedoc spans the Mediterranean coast from the Pyrenees mountains of Roussillon all the way to the Rhône Valley. Languedoc’s terrain is generally flat coastal plains, with a warm Mediterranean climate and frequent risk of drought.

Virtually every style of wine is made in this expansive region. Most dry wines are blends with varietal choice strongly influenced by the neighboring Rhône Valley. For reds and rosés, the primary grapes include Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. White varieties include Grenache Blanc, Muscat, Ugni Blanc, Vermentino, Macabéo, Clairette, Piquepoul and Bourbelenc.

International varieties are also planted in large numbers here, in particular Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The key region for sparkling wines here is Limoux, where Blanquette de Limoux is believed to have been the first sparkling wine made in France, even before Champagne. Crémant de Limoux is produced in a more modern style.
