Occupying the highest point on the slope, Hauts de Husseau's soils feature less chalk but plenty of marine fossils. Here grow the domaine's oldest vines, with very deep roots. This wine is all about focused richness, displaying a saline nose with rich, pineappley scents. The palate is very intense but retains a sense of purpose, chanelling the ripe apple and sweet pineapple flavours down the centre while salinity floods the edges. Drinking Window 2020 - 2036

This is coming together nicely but needs more time, with high acidity becoming an integrated part of the wine, supporting the notes of persimmon, nectarine and lemon pith. Shows great intensity and remains quite powerful midpalate, but softens with hints of cardamom on the long, mineral-infused finish. Best from 2022 through 2032.

Unquestionably one of the most diverse grape varieties, Chenin Blanc can do it all. It shines in every style from bone dry to unctuously sweet, oaked or unoaked, still or sparkling and even as the base for fortified wines and spirits. Perhaps Chenin Blanc’s greatest asset is its ever-present acidity, maintained even under warm growing conditions. Somm Secret—Landing in South Africa in the mid 1800s, today the country has double the acreage of Chenin Blanc planted compared to France. There is also a new wave of dedicated producers committed to restoring old Chenin vines.
On the south bank of the Loire River, below Vouvray, Montlouis produces all styles of Chenin blanc from bone dry, off-dry, sweet, oak aged and even the sparkling Montlouis Mousseux and Montlouis Pétillant Naturel. Soils here are lighter and sandier compared to Vouvray.
