    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

The color is red-ruby with a purple hue. The smell is particularly delicate, with aromas of fresh red berries (cherries, raspberries, and strawberries), flowers (iris, violet) and a herbal caracter (fern, pepper). The mouth is round and soft at same time, with silky and velvety tannin. This harmonious and delicate structure is the reflection of its limestone soil, a beautiful maturity of its grape berries and a sweet and long vinification.

Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.

Known for its delightful whites and sparkling Pétillant and Mousseux, made predominantly of Chenin blanc, Anjou has a temperate and dry maritime climate. The region's limited temperature variations are admiringly referred to locally as the “douceur angevine,” or “Anjou sweetness.” Fruit forward rosé and red wines from Cabernet Franc and Gamay merit Anjou its success within the Loire subregions.
