Winemaker Notes
Stunning and beautifully delineated, this wine offers purity and pretty aromatics in a mix of blood orange, pomegranate, raspberry, rose petal, white pepper, Palo Santo, with hints of nutmeg and mint. The sandy soils at the site lend themselves to the soft, lush, and juicy palate presence alongside 20% stem inclusion bringing texture and structure.

More marine-influence notes of spiced cherries, raspberries, iodine, and brambly herbs emerge from the 2017 Pinot Noir Zotovich Family Vineyard. This spicy, complex, nuanced effort has beautiful fruit, medium-bodied richness, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's another terrific wine in this lineup.

From a sandy mid-valley-floor site owned by Ryan Zotovich, this leads with scents of oolong tea and dark berries. Its flavors are juicy and bright, framed by tobacco and smoke, a delicious, layered pinot.

Throughout the winemaking process, to produce a seamless balance between grape variety and site, the wines are carefully handcrafted with minimal intervention. Bringing together passion, artistry, and intuition, we are always leaning on the history of this ageless craft and never forgetting ‘those who went before us and showed us the way.'
Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
A superior source of California Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills is the coolest, westernmost sub-region of the larger Santa Ynez Valley appellation within Santa Barbara County. This relatively new AVA is unquestionably one to keep an eye on.
The climate of Sta. Rita Hills is a natural match for Chardonnay and Pinot noir, thanks to the crisp ocean breezes and well-drained, limestone-rich calcareous soil. Here, grapes ripen just enough, while retaining brisk acidity and harmonious balance.
