Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Color dark purple. Aroma earthy, spicy, black current, blackberry ,hints of pomegranate, minerals, black pepper. Taste vibrant complex mix of black current, black cherry, hints of pomegranate and cranberry, as well as floral notes of rose and violets. A substantial wine with round tannin's and a velvety mouthfeel, balanced by vibrant crisp acidity. Long, sweet finish of black current and black cherry fruit and spice.

Professional Ratings

This remarkable wine has intensely focused and gorgeous fruit flavors and a silky texture due to very light tannins. It’s big in terms of concentrated black cherry and blackberry flavors, but beautifully polished and ready to drink.

Dashe Cellars, founded in 1996, blends Anne's classic French winemaking training with the experience Michael has gained at Ridge Vineyards, Far Niente and Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. Together, the Dashes' strive to create authentic, site-focused wines that capture the charm and personality of top, independent vineyards throughout Sonoma County and beyond. In 2007, Michael and Anne started a new series of wines that they dubbed "Les Enfants Terribles", wines that were inspired by many of the French wines they admire, with balance, complexity, lower alcohols, beautiful fruit aromatics and velvety textures. These easy-to drink and expressive wines are a great complement to their lineup of classic "signature wines".

Responsible for some of the most stunning old vine red wine on the planet, Carignan has an amazing capacity to survive dry, arid climates and still produce lovely, mouthwatering wine. In Spain it goes by the name of Mazuelo or Cariñena and while it may have originated there in the province of Aragón, its popularity lies elsewhere, particularly in Languedoc-Roussillon. Somm Secret—Historically Carignan did not enjoy the respect that it does today. In the mid 20th century, Carignan covered nearly 140,000 ha in Algeria, where it was made into low quality bulk and blending wine to supply mass-market demand.

A large Northern California appellation centered on the San Francisco Bay Area, the San Francisco Bay AVA falls within the larger Central Coast AVA. The smaller appellations of Livermore Valley, Pacheco Pass, San Ysidro District and Santa Clara Valley AVAs fall within the San Francisco Bay boundaries, and all produce high-quality Central Coast wines.
