    Winemaker Notes

This Sangiovese is an aromatic and intense red capable of combining a rich tannic structure with a fresh elegant drink and here the more flowery parcels and those rich in primary aromas blend to make the wine versatile and extremely enjoyable.

Nestled in the Predappio hills, at an altitude of between 150 and 350 m above sea level, the Condé estate covers 92 hectares, 75 of which are vineyard. The estate, which was originally made up of nine farms, now represents excellence in Emilia Romagna.

This company was created with a specific idea in mind: to produce, in a territory as suitable as Predappio, a great, pure Sangiovese. Francesco Condello founded the vineyard in 2001 to make a dream come true: to produce a wine equal in quality to that of the best Brunello di Montalcino. The idea is ambitious, but with hard work, a love for these vines, a "terroir" of the highest quality, along with the professionalism and expertise of Winemaker Federico Curtaz, it may come true one day. For hundreds of years Predappio has been the land of Sangiovese, and this wealth of experience is expressed through the efforts of the many people who have worked and continue to collaborate on this project. Condé today, after years of experimenting with the vines and production, is taking on the great national and international wines by producing a single label with its own name in three versions Doc, Superiore and Riserva.

Among Italy's elite red grape varieties, Sangiovese has the perfect intersection of bright red fruit and savory earthiness and is responsible for the best red wines of Tuscany. While it is best known as the chief component of Chianti, it is also the main grape in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and reaches the height of its power and intensity in the complex, long-lived Brunello di Montalcino. Somm Secret—Sangiovese doubles under the alias, Nielluccio, on the French island of Corsica where it produces distinctly floral and refreshing reds and rosés.

The hilly, eastern side of Emilia-Romagna is now separated into 12 subzones defined by elevation and soil types. Within these, vine growers are starting to differentiate ideal locations for high quality Sangiovese as well as Albana, the region’s white grape. Albana has proven itself via the finer passito and botrytized versions; dry versions are also making a name for themselves.
