Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Golden white with bright reflects. Complex nose that mixes aromas of white flowers and exotic fruits (pineapple) and spices (safran, curry). Ample and round. Rich and balanced in the same time, with a good freshness, saltiness, and a powerful aromatic intensity. Ideal as an aperitif, gorgeous pairing with truffles, white meats, fishes, warmed pâte cheeses (comté), refined goat cheeses. Blend: 80% Roussanne 20% Clairette

The 2016 Ventoux Quintessence Blanc is 80% Roussanne fermented in oak and 20% Clairette fermented in steel. The wines are then blended and aged in concrete for an additional six months. The result is a wine that combines the toasted nut and pear richness of Roussanne with the citrusy freshness of Clairette. It's a medium to full-bodied wine that shows some briny complexity, excellent flavor definition, focus and length. It should drink well for up to 5 years from the vintage.

Looking first at their white and made from Roussanne and Clairette, the 2016 Ventoux Quintessence is a serious, age-worthy wine from this estate. Offering notes of stone fruits, bitter citrus, peach and a hint of marmalade, it’s beautifully concentrated, has integrated acidity and crisp finish. It’s still a bay and needs plenty of time in the glass if drinking anytime soon, but will keep for a decade or more.

Chateau Pesquie, France
Chateau Pesquie Winery Video

Chateau Pesquié is the story of three generations of passionate winemakers. Odette and René Bastide, took over the vineyard in the beginning of the 1970’s and restructured a large part of it. They used to bring their grapes to the local Cooperative.

Edith and Paul Chaudière, René & Odette’s daughter and son-in-law, decided to give up their medical careers to take over the family estate in 1985. They traveled in many wine regions (in France, Spain, Germany, the US, etc.), became sommeliers and worked on terroir selection... This led them to create their own winery in 1990, first vintage of Château Pesquié. By then, it was one of 10 independent wineries: there are now more than 120.

Fred and Alex Chaudière, the two sons of Edith & Paul, have taken over gradually since 2003 with the firm objective to take it to the next level and show the world how amazing the Ventoux terroir is!

In the 80’s, Paul Chaudière began sustainable farming. When Alexandre & Frederic took over, they started moving to organic (first plot converted in 2007). The estate is now fully converted to organic agriculture (Ecocert).
