Tajinaste is run by the indefatigable Agustín García Farrais. He works alongside his parents, Cecila ("Chilla") and Agustin Snr. who are both 70 years old going on 30.

The bodega was started by Agustín’s grandfather. They own 3 hectares and rent 9 hectares w/ 25-year contracts with their neighbors. They buy grapes from another 16 hectares worth of vineyards, so the total under management is 28 hectares. The bodega is named for the beautiful flower that grows on Tenerife, depicted on the labels.

Having trained in Bordeaux, Agustín is a precise winemaker. His oldest vines were planted in 1914. He vinifies each parcel separately, which has allowed him to get to know the true character of each vineyard such that he can masterfully blend extremely consistent and beguiling wines year after year.

Beyond the usual suspects, there are hundreds of red grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines, while others are better suited for use as blending grapes. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles, offering much to be discovered by the curious wine lover. In particular, Portugal and Italy are known for having a multitude of unique varieties but they can really be found in any region.
