Winemaker Notes

The Quail Hill Vineyard Chardonnay has bright and effusive aromatics of ripe peach, orange peel, brioche, and honeysuckle are present on the nose. The expansive mid-palate blends star anise, nectarine, and lemon custard accents. Lush acidity focuses the supple finish of honeydew, pineapple, and stone fruits.

Honeysuckle and jasmine pique interest aromatically before luscious, linear waves of vanilla, caramel and lemon custard graciously interject, buoyed by ample acidity and a lush texture. This Chardonnay offers generous richness alongside high-toned minerality, and is a delicious go-to for buttery lobster dishes.

Lynmar Estate is situated on a unique and picturesque site with rolling vineyards bordered by the Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed. The vineyard, with vines over forty years old, 15 clones of Pinot Noir and 4 clones of Chardonnay has an array of canopy and rootstock combinations that yield exquisite fruit. Our state-of-the-art, gravity flow winery and caves is an ideal environment for making and aging ultra-premium wine. The gorgeous borders that surround the vineyards attract beneficial insects and hummingbirds, providing a natural barrier from pests.

Our vision is two-fold: (1) to meticulously caretake all the elements of the Estate, and continue to perfect and enhance the nuances of our winemaking, (2) to share it with people from all over the world who come here to have the experience of wine, food and place with a communion of friends, families, and colleagues.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

A standout region for its decidedly Californian take on Burgundian varieties, the Russian River Valley is named for the eponymous river that flows through it. While there are warm pockets of the AVA, it is mostly a cool-climate growing region thanks to breezes and fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean.

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir reign supreme in Russian River, with the best examples demonstrating a unique combination of richness and restraint. The cool weather makes Russian River an ideal AVA for sparkling wine production, utilizing the aforementioned varieties. Zinfandel also performs exceptionally well here. Within the Russian River Valley lie the smaller appellations of Chalk Hill and Green Valley. The former, farther from the ocean, is relatively warm, with a focus on red and white Bordeaux varieties. The latter is the coolest, foggiest parcel of the Russian River Valley and is responsible for outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
