This excellent Syrah wine has a beautiful dark ruby color. It shows a harmonious balance of lively fruit such as blueberries and strawberries; hints of oak also make this wine more complex. Appealing in the palate for its bright and juicy red and black fruit flavours with a smooth texture and spice notes. Medium body and soft tannins structure with a balance long finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

Cadora Moscato hails from the sun-kissed area of Trani, a beautiful city on the seaside in Apulia in Southern Italy. It is vinified using the Charmat method which preserves the delightful freshness and fragrance of the luscious Moscato grapes.

Sparkling wine that is straw yellow in color with a fine and very persistent perlage. An intense, yet delicate bouquet of fruit, flowers and the haunting musky fragrance so typical of Moscato. The taste is light, fresh, fruity and pleasantly sweet.

Winemaker's Notes:

When we say "old vines," we mean vines at least fifty and often over a hundred years old. The vines must also be head-trained and dry farmed to be included in our "Old Vines" Zinfandel program. St. Francis has found a series of small vineyards in Sonoma County that date back to the turn of the last century.

Because of their great age, these plots yield less than two tons per acre of exceptionally concentrated fruit. Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet vines planted among the Zinfandel add texture and color to this "field blend." We hand-pick late so that some of the grapes have become raisins, further intensifying the varietal flavors. Once crushed, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks for twelve to eighteen days, then aged in new American oak barrels from twelve to fifteen months. The wine is held another four to eight months after bottling.

This distinct "old world style" of wine displays deep aromas of ripe black cherries and licorice, rich with spice and toasty oak notes that carry into a long luscious finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine exhibits brilliant hues of light yellow speared by vibrant streaks of green. Aromas of exotic grapefruit and green lime dominate with hints of caper, fennel and lemon zest. Flavors follow with tremendous ruby grapefruit, citrus, kiwi and guava through a crisp finish. This Sauvignon Blanc complements a wide variety of foods from mild cheeses and fish to boldly flavored Asian dishes. It's also a great sipper as an aperitif.

Winemaker's Notes:

Rich magenta with a ruby hue. Intense fruit aromas of blackberries, mulberries and boysenberries combine with hints of black pepper, anise, violets and gardenias to produce a vibrant and aromatic wine.

Soft and supple upon entry, the wine extends to offer concentrated flavors of cracked black pepper, anise and coriander. Delicate and opulent, the mouthfeel is further enhanced by soft and velvety tannins to provide a signature cool climate Shiraz.

My Notes:

About Green Point:

In the 1840s, when the Yarra Valley in Victoria was first settled by Europeans, they observed that one particular spur of land leading down to the Yarra river always remained green longer as summer advanced. They called it "Green Point." It stayed green because the deep weathered siltstone soils on this spur retain moisture longer than other areas in the valley. These soils, in combination with the Yarra Valley's cool climate, proved to be an ideal "terroir" for grape growing and grapes have been grown on these slopes since the 1850s.

Moët & Chandon acquired the site in 1986 and today it is where they grow high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for Green Point still wines. They have selected other sites in Victoria and the Yarra Valley that provide the ideal marriage of "terroir" with variety for the other Green Point varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz).

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Ramal Vineyard Pinot Noir shows a great combination of fruit intensity, structure and ageability. The color is deep purple with aromas of blueberry, plum and blackberry fruit, anise, allspice and mushroom. It has bright raspberry and deeper plum flavors with cinnamon, vanilla and toast notes on the long, silky finish. Pair this rich Pinot Noir with beef tenderloin and sautéed spinach.

Bold enough to pair with a roasted rosemary rack of lamb along with new spring red potatoes.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Buena Vista Winery:

About Buena Vista Winery:

Founded in 1857 as California's first premium winery, Buena Vista, under the direction of winemaker Jeff Stewart, is a leader in cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. Straddling Sonoma County in the southern end of the Carneros appellation, the 523-acre Ramal Vineyard Estate is broken up into 167 small blocks, with 21 different clones of Chardonnay and 13 different clones of Pinot Noir, and is set along rolling south-facing hillsides overlooking the San Pablo Bay. The Ramal Vineyard is the crown jewel of all Carneros.

Most winemakers will agree that cool-climate wines like Pinot Noir are the most difficult to produce. And most will agree that Jeff Stewart does so with unparalleled success. Jeff comes to Buena Vista with over 15 years of achievement in cool-climate viticulture and his focus on gentle handling of the grapes and temperature moderation produces wines with complexity, character and depth.

Winemaker's Notes:

With beautifully married flavors and tannins, our Oberon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a lovely, seamless texture. Malolactic fermentation in barrel, combined with 18 months oak aging, further concentrated the wine's vibrant red cherry, candied blackberry, licorice and spice flavors, adding a hint of cocoa powder and a lingering toffee note on the finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Oberon:

About Oberon:

As a third-generation winemaker and Napa Valley native, Rob Mondavi, Jr. has always understood that the region is uniquely suited for growing classic Bordeaux varieties. With the Oberon label - originally named for the eponymous king in Shakespeare's winsome comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream — he has created high-quality Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc to be enjoyed every day.

Rob and fellow winemaker, Tony Coltrin, select Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from some of Napa Valley's finest vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap and other emerging sub-appellations. The climate of these regions — warm days and cool evenings — yields grapes with the perfect balance of ripe fruit flavors and natural acidity.

Wine Enthusiast rating: 90 points
PRICE ON 7/29/2014: $19.99

Winemaker's Notes:

This quaffable, moderately priced "sequel" to Pargua's limited-production wine is made with a bright blend of 30% Cabernet Franc, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Syrah, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Carmenère. It offers a juicy texture supported by integrated tannins and a generous finish of wild berries, dried fruit, and sweet spice. An outstanding companion to grilled meats, eggplant, Moroccan food and spicy sauces.
My Notes:

About Vina Pargua:

Pargua winemaker Jean Pascal Lacaze believes that wine is only as good as the grapes from which it is made. At his Maipo Valley vineyard, Lacaze grows grapes sustainably and organically, uses the best fruit, ages the wine in individually selected barrels, and blends the juice at just the right time.

The label artwork was created by renowned Chilean artist Benjamin Lira, who took his inspiration from the word Pargua, meaning "full moon" in the Mapuche language. Like the artwork, which will change with every vintage, Pargua’s wines are vibrant, expressive, and harmonious.
