About Charles & Charles:

A collaboration founded in 2008 between Food & Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year, Charles Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines) and Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, BIELER Pere et Fils, Sombra mezcal, and the Gotham Project). They produce just two wines each year, a rosé made in the old school way, and a cabernet sauvignon and syrah red blend. All the grapes for their wines are farmed sustainably in the Columbia Valley (largely in the Wahluke Slope AVA) by Butch and Jerry Milbrandt.

Deep ruby color with garnet reflections, its elegant bouquet of leather, black cherries, licorice and plums preludes a medium to full-bodied palate where ripe red fruit, gout de terroir, subtle notes of vanilla and violets that harmonize and linger.
My Notes:

About Castello di Monte Antico:

Neil Empson and renowned oenologist Franco Bernabei conjunctly orchestrate this all-Sangiovese varietal from Tuscany's very finest vineyard sites. Having access to the region's top crus and ideal microclimates means they can pick and choose according to harvest conditions, achieving consistent excellence with each vintage.

The superlative characteristics of chosen locations and strict quality parameters make for the wine's depth, structure, character and longevity.

Terrain includes compact, very fine-textured limestone, at an altitude of 400-450 meters above sea level; rocky, clayey/calcareous areas, also at altitudes around 400 meters; and clayey/siliceous/calcareous soil, at an altitude of 250-300 meters: a cross-section of Tuscany's best.

Winemaker's Notes:

Laya is 70% Garnacha Tintorera — Alicante Bouschet — and 30% Monastrell planted around 1000 metres (3280 feet) above sea level and aged for 4 months in French oak. Garnacha Tintorera is known for its deep color and here it coats the glass and imparts aromas of brooding black fruits, licorice, espresso, and pepper. Dense, savory, and rich.

Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers Blanc 2010
Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers Blanc 2010
(search item no. 109205)
screw cap wine

PRICE ON 9/23/2014: $14.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Sauvignon Blanc 50%, Sémillon 40%, Muscadelle 10%.

The wine is brilliant and luminous to the eye, while on the nose Château Bonnet 2010 shows its personality once again with intense aromas of grapefruit, boxwood, and acacia flowers. On the palate, the attack is fresh and lemony, is in perfect balance with the rich fully body that is well-structured and has a long finish. The aromatic persistence is remarkable, and the notes of citrus fruits and yellow peaches linger on the palate. This wine, already delicious, is a perfect match with fish tartars, shellfish and summer salads.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau Bonnet:

About Chateau Bonnet:

The vineyards of Chateau Bonnet were planted during the 16th century, by the Reynier family, wealthy merchants from Libourne. In a mere 30 years, the landscape around the house was transformed, as vines replaced forest on the surrounding slopes.

Château Bonnet lies to the North of the Entre-Deux-Mers, on the clay-chalk slopes of the commune of Grézillac, overlooking the Dordogne valley some 10km south of Saint Emilion. The estate dates back to the 17th century; when André Lurton took over in 1956, it comprised 30 hectares of vineyard, which he immediately undertook to renovate and develop.

Today, half Bonnet's production is devoted to a highly popular dry white (AOC Entre-Deux-Mers), a blend of Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle grapes, carefully vinified to preserve the freshness and bouquet of these varietals.

The other half is composed of classic red varietals - Merlots, Cabernet Francs and Cabernet Sauvignons - producing noteworthy clarets widely held to be superior to the general run of the appellation.
