Winemaker's Notes:

Densely colored, ruby red, almost black, which develops to garnet with the ageing of the wine. Aromatically sensational, intense, with notes of mature fruit and hints of spice and aromas of vanilla transcended from the barriques. Potent, soft and velvety, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Pair with meat roasts, steak, matured cheeses game and international cuisine.

Additional wines from Tenuta di Argiano:

About Tenuta di Argiano:

After this estate was acquired by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano, the philosophy changed whereby quality and personality became the dominant priorities. In order to achieve these goals, Sebastiano Rosa was appointed as General Manager of the Estate. Having spent six years at the University of California at Davis, a two year tenure at Chateau Lafite Rothschild and three years at Sassacaia, he brings a strong mix of experience. In addition, Dr. Giacomo Tachis, probably the most well known winemaker in Italy today, became the oenologist. His legacy includes Sassacaia, Tignanello and Solaia, to name a few. Argiano's vineyards are located in the Montalicino area where a perfect microclimate assures a super ecological system. Varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese are planted. These grapes have not traditionally been part of the Montalcino area.

Selected grapes from Rioja Alavesa vineyards. Soils are a mixture of chalk, sand and clay. The vines have a medium age of 20 to 25 years and are grown using the traditional "gobelet" system. Fifteen days of fermentation and the maceration process is done in temperature controlled stainless steel vats with daily pumpovers to achieve the optimum color and tannin extraction. Malolactic fermentation is conducted in stainless steel tanks and then racked twice before going into oak barrels. The wine is aged in American oak for 12 months, with one racking.

Winemaker's Notes:

Meiomi (May-oh-mee) is a Pinot Noir that gets its fruit from the most noteworthy coastal areas in California. The wine is crafted, lush, balanced and luxurious. Three of the California's most sought after coastal growing regions brilliantly meld together in this deeply flavored, stylish and truly balanced Pinot Noir; at its most fundamental core, it is an approachable, food friendly wine with a style and place all its own.

Deep, rich garnet color. The wine opens up with aromas of ripe berries, fresh cranberry, candy apple and malted vanilla, some of which carries through to the palate. There's a hint of Granny Smith apple on first sip that beautifully balances out the rich cream soda and cherry cola notes. It is an extremely layered wine, both in structure and flavor, with a slight earthiness and sweet oak on the finish. The wine almost contradicts itself, managing to display freshness and maturity all at the same time, which is achieved through careful blending.

About Meiomi:

The name Meiomi means "coast" in the language of the native, coastal dwelling Wappo and Yuki tribes, and best pays tribute to and symbolizes the origin of this Pinot Noir. A pure bred enjoyment wine, built to accommodate any pairing from food to friends. Unifying California’s most noteworthy coastal areas opens the door for a dynamic and opulent wine that is ready to enjoy whenever you are.

Additional wines from Canard-Duchene:

About Canard-Duchene:

1860 in Ludes, Victor Canard, A cooper, and Léonie Duchêne, from a family of "vignerons" met and fell in love. They got married, and started to make their own champagne.

Success came quickly, so they then decided to set up their own Champagne house. They joined their names together, in the true Champagne tradition, and Canard-Duchêne was born. The year was 1868.

In 1890, their son, Edmond Canard took over. He was young, bold, loved champagne, and really understood the new world which was coming up. Under his guidance, Canard-Duchêne became international champagne, especially as one of the Champagnes supplied to the court of Tsar Nicholas II.

The relationship has left its mark: from then on, the Canard Duchêne coat of arms has borne the two-headed eagle, emblem of the Russian Imperial Family. Another symbol was added later. The sabre, in memory of a tradition which is intimately linked with champagne, celebration and reward. For the last hundred years, the eagle and the sabre have been our coat of arms.

The Third generation continues on the same tracks. Since 1930, Victor Canard, the founder's grandson, gives a new life of the son. After the recent integration of Canard-Duchêne in the privately-owned group Alain Thiénot, it now occupies a strong position on the French market. At the same time, the House is developing its international markets. Long a Symbol of enjoyment and elegance, Champagne is a gift from nature. From the 300 "crus" in the Champagne region, Canard-Duchêne has chosen 60 of them, blending Pinots and Chardonnay, in order to create year after year fruity, balanced and rounded wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Lassègue is the essence of opulent ripe and very rich Cabernet Franc with a dense Merlot character plus a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine expresses a delicacy, elegance and a high complexity. With a voluptuous, layered and complex structure, this wine is already showing an accomplished character, which reflects the limestone and clay of the hillsides.
My Notes:

About Chateau Lassegue:

Chateau Lassegue is located in Saint Emilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, France. Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke have teamed up with Vigneron Winemaster Pierre Seillan to bring new life to this beautiful estate. With plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, a long sun exposure, limestone soils and Pierre's philosophy of "Micro-cru", exceptional wines are made from this estate. Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau Les Trois Croix, the privately owned estate of the Patrick Leon Family is located on Fronsac's highest hill, close to Saint-Emilion & Pomerol. The chalk and clay soil provides the perfect environment for the grape varieties which produce this outstanding wine. Les Trois Croix is named after the three crosses on the pilgrimage site of a nearby 12th century church. Berfore retiring to assist his son Bertrand, Patrick Leon worked as wine master at such celebrated firms & wineries as Alexis Lichine, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Opus One and Almaviva.

Good balance and ripe fruit freshness in the mouth, with good tannins that are noticeable but round and creamy. A great, classic Bordeaux Vintage.

Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc

My Notes:

About Chateau Les Trois Croix:

Chateau Les Trois Croix is translated from French to mean "Three Crosses" for "three children". Patrick Leon and his wife dreamed of owning their own family winery one day. 1712 is carved in stone in the winery and reflects the age and seniority of the vineyard.

Located 86 meters above sea level on the limestone plateau, the vineyard offers a magnificent view over the hills, valleys and mounds typical "of this count... this Fronsac" Tuscan girondine "if endearing." The plateau of clay composed of "molasses of Fronsac" relies on large limestone rock outcropping that of the surface. These are ideal conditions for Merlot, the grape king supplemented by Cabernet Franc up to 20%, which the Fronsac region is known for producing.
