Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Shiraz.

The Condor symbolizes Penley Estate's determination, energy and quiet persistence towards winemaking excellence. The 2006 Condor Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is a rich wine with soft, lingering blackberry, chocolate and pepper spice aromas. A full bodied style, the palate has generous ripe berry and savory notes framed by velvety tannins. Drink now or cellar up to seven years for additional complexity.

Additional wines from Penley Estate:

About Penley Estate:

Established in 1988, by Kym Tolley, a direct descendant of the famous Penfold and Tolley winemaking families – the name Penley is an amalgam of the first three and last three letters from each title.

Tolley has over 25 years of winemaking experience, including being involved in the making of many vintages of the famous Penfolds Grange. The estate is located in the heart of Coonawarra, with the vines planted in the famed "terra rossa" soils – bright red top-soils overlaying soft free-draining limestone.

Critically acclaimed as one of Coonawarra's leading estates, and voted as one of the International Wineries of the Year 2001 by Wine & Spirits Magazine, while the Reserve Cabernet voted best wine of Coonawarra 2001, as judged by winemaking peers and critics.

The Penley Estate signature style comprises distinct, precise, terrior driven wines – not overly oaked or excessively alcoholic. They display ripe clean fruit with true regional character – the senior wines will age for many years.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 growing season was warm and dry giving early development of fruit flavor at balanced alcohol levels.

Aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and vanilla bean with a soft dusty earthy complexity. The palate demonstrates a medium bodied, delicate effort with soft tannin and well balanced fruit expressive of the cool climate terroir.

About Yering Station:

The first vineyard in Victoria, Yering Station was originally planted in 1838. Its acquisition in 1996 by the Rathbone family marked the beginning of a new era, with the construction of a state-of-the-art winery and award winning tourism complex (Winner: 2003-04 Australian Tourism Award for Tourism Wineries).

The winemaking team lead by Tom Carson (nominated for the Qantas Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year 2004) take a non-interventionist approach to allow full expression of the characteristics of this cool-climate region with particular emphasis on varietal flavours, structure and balance. The sub-regional variation between each of our sites throughout the valley allows the winery to successfully produce a diverse range of wines. When a grape variety performs exceptionally well throughout a season, a selection of the most outstanding parcels are released under our reserve label.

Through consistently producing a vast range of different wines, all with hallmark elegance, quality and distinction, Yering Station has built a reputation as one of the finest producers in the Yarra Valley and Australia.

Winemaker's Notes:

Yalumba 'The Scribbler' is a wine with excellent depth of color, richness and complexity, displaying an aroma of riper style Barossa Cabernet Shiraz. It shows dark plum fruits, black cherry, dark tobacco and hints of leafiness all with the dark undertones of mocha oak. It is a well structured wine with a full and robust palate, displaying the classic red berry fruit flavor of Cabernet Sauvignon and the sweet mid-palate of Shiraz. ‘The Scribbler' finishes with tannins that have a black olive and red spice tone. This wine is perfect to enjoy now, but will certainly cellar over the next 5-10 years.
