Winemaker's Notes:

Tilia Malbec has a dark, blackish purple color. The nose offers ripe black fruits, black pepper spice and floral notes. The mouthfeel is full yet soft and supple, with black raspberry and currant flavors mingled with notes of sweet spice and a touch of leather. The finish is long and persistent with soft, sweet tannins.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Tilia:

About Tilia:

Named after the Tilia (Linden) tree commonly found throughout Argentina’s wine country, Tilia wines possess true varietal character and embody the rural Mendozean lifestyle. For years vineyard workers have used the flowers of the Tilia to make an herbal tea for enjoyment after a hard day’s work. The name Tilia is chosen in honor of this wine country tradition.

The Tilia wines are made at Bodegas Esmeralda, a Catena family winery in the Eastern region of Mendoza that is dedicated to making value wines for the Argentine domestic market. Tilia wines offer a unique combination of fruit sourced from the traditional Eastern region and the dynamic Southern region of Mendoza. The Eastern region of Mendoza enjoys warm, sunny days and cool desert nights. The grapes have very ripe, rich fruit flavors and excellent mid-palate depth and concentration. Bright sunshine and low temperatures of the Southern region lend a cool freshness. The fruit from this area shows clean acid balance and soft, supple tannins.

Tilia is dedicated to responsible use of the environment. The winemaking and viticultural team actively engage in many practices and programs throughout the community to implement sustainability. Water conservation and reuse, minimal use of pesticides and organic fertilization are several examples of the team’s dedication. Furthermore, the entire Tilia viticultural team attends regular sustainability training sessions at the National University of Cuyo and National Agricultural Research Institute. They take this training into the field to share and implement with their grower partners.

Winemaker's Notes:

Heady aromas of ripe fruit, white pepper and vanilla followed by an intense rush of fresh blackberry, dark chocolate, pepper and caramel flavors.

True Grit is a natural mate for seared steak, sausage, grilled pork loin, and smoked meats. This wine is big, but can dance lightly in both familiar and exotic menu settings.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Parducci:

About Parducci:

Sixteen year-old Adolph Parducci arrived in Northern California with his parents in 1912. The new immigrant family settled in Mendocino County an area that resembled their native Tuscany. Even today, the geography and climate of Mendocino County are similar to Northern Italy. The County's hillside vineyards provide plenty of exposure to ripen hearty red grape varieties, while deep river valleys with good drainage support flavor-packed white grapes. Adolph purchased his first vineyard in 1921, just one-year after Prohibition. To survive, Parducci created a market for his grapes with home winemakers from as far away as New York. Adolph and his four sons built their full-scale winery in 1932 on the site of their original Home Ranch just above the Ukiah Valley.

In 1944, Parducci produced one of the first varietal bottling of California Zinfandel. This wine signaled the arrival of California as a premium winegrowing area and of Parducci Wine Cellars as the producer of quality wines. Two years later, we made the first varietal bottling of California Petite Sirah and today we are still the largest producer of Petite Sirah with just over 20,000 cases.

Parducci is "Family Farmed," locally owned and operated in California's Mendocino County. We are committed to sustainable winegrowing practices that yield top quality grapes and wines while protecting the environment and supporting our community and local farmers.

Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of western Rheingau with a long tradition. The balanced blend of Silvaner Riesling is refreshing, delightful and easy to drink. It displays beautiful flavors of melons, apples, lime and peaches. The wine is juicy on the palate with notes of apple skins and mineral salts.

Asparagus dishes pair especially well, as do salads and fish dishes.

My Notes:

Additional wines from August Kesseler:

About August Kesseler:

Situated in the Assmannshausen in the Rheingau region, the wine estate of August Kesseler consists of vineyard sites in Lorch (for Riesling and Silvaner wines), on the slopes of the hills around Rüdesheim and in the area called “Assmanshäuser Höllenberg”. August Kesseler took over the estate from his parents in 1977 as a young man, and has qualitatively expanded the best area under vines to 18 hectares (44.48 acres). The manor house and cellar are situated directly on the slate outcrops of the “Assmanshäuser Höllenberg”.

Experience gained in winegrowing regions in the USA and France has taught August Kesseler the value in placing great importance on quality – improving measures in the vineyard and in the cellar, which restore the characteristic flavor to the Assmanshäuser Spätburgunder – a flavor which once made it world-famous – and which give the Riesling from the Rüdesheimer Berg a good balance between the typical acidity and the natural residual sugar.

Delectable tropical fruit intertwines with grapefruit, lemon and candied lime peel. Elegantly layered, this wine exhibits a creamy, lush texture with vanilla accents and a hint of cinnamon spice to round out the long, lingering finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Kendall-Jackson:

About Kendall-Jackson:

Back in 1974, Jess Jackson saw in the fine vineyards of California's cool coastal regions fruit with a variety of outstanding flavors. What if there was a way to produce from this abundance, a single outstanding "cuvée" that offered both quality and value? The result, first released in 1983, was Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, a rich, round and flavorful wine, made with hand-crafted methods. That same year, Grand Reserve was introduced, a line of ultra-premium wines that represented the full potential of California's finest vineyards and winemaking. Today, over 5,000 acres of vineyard in California's coastal regions are farmed by Kendall-Jackson. Four separate wineries house what is possibly the single largest barrel-fermentation project in the world. But perhaps most important, is that Kendall-Jackson remains a family-owned winery.

The wine has a deep ruby color. The blackcurrant, cherry and chocolate notes are evident and perfectly integrated with notes of wood. On the palate this is a full-bodied, balanced and elegant wine with notes of blackberry, fig and spices complemented with firm and round tannins. A classic example of the famous Portuguese red grape variety Touriga nacional, this is an exceptional opulent wine
My Notes:

Additional wines from Aveleda:

About Aveleda:

Aveleda is a name which spans several generations. The first records of the sale of bottled wine date back to 1870, with Manuel Pedro Guedes (1837-1899), known for his strong enterprising spirit and believed to be the founder of the business as we know it today. His work bore fruit and the quality of the Aveleda wines started to be recognised, as the gold medals won in the international competitions in Berlin (1888) and Paris (1889) attest.

Today the Guedes family still owns 100% of the company, always committed to maintaining this family legacy which spans several generations. The son of Manuel Pedro Guedes, Fernando Guedes da Silva da Fonseca (1871-1946) continued his father’s work, significantly increasing the production capacity at the Estate. He had 7 children and it was Roberto Van-Zeller Guedes (1899-1966) who led the family business, dedicating his whole life to working at Aveleda. The 4th generation includes the six children of Roberto Van-Zeller Guedes: Fernando, Luís, António, Maria Isabel, Maria Helena and Roberto – who today manage the company’s future, together with the following generation: 14 cousins who make up the 5th generation.

Winemaker's Notes:

The very steep Apotheke vineyard, across the Mosel from the estate house, is Stefan's best site in Trittenheim. 'Apotheke' translates to ‘pharmacy', and its medicinal power is perhaps more than a myth. Stefan Bollig's wines are stylish and crisp with a fine fruity elegance and good mineral content. The fine structure of ripe acidity gives his wines plenty of maturing potential.
My Notes:

About Bollig-Lehnert:

The family has been producing wine since the 17th Century, but new cellars and a new house have been built on the outskirts of Trittenheim. Stefan Bollig and his wife Jill live in the estate house in Trittenheim with their family, whilst the Weinstube am Domhof (a wine pub) is situated in the old Piesport house. The total holdings of 4 hectares (10 acres) are tended by the family themselves. Their very steep sloped vineyard sites are composed mainly of blue and black decomposing slaty soil.

Intensity of color, rich black and brambly fruits, vanilla bean and roasting coffee aromatics are complimented by remarkable approachability in the 2008 Spellbound Petite Sirah.

The wine is crafted to unleash dark and luscious characteristics, while managing tannins to deliver an opulent and juicy Petite Sirah. This lush yet easy drinking wine provides intense berry character, with superb texture you will find in no other Petite Sirah but Spellbound.

About Spellbound:

Spellbound was born when Rob Mondavi and Paul Hoffman decided to craft wines that are relaxed enough to enjoy every day yet special enough to celebrate milestone events. In honor of California's rich winegrowing heritage, this winemaking team sources fruit from established and emerging wine regions throughout the state, including Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Santa Barbara and Lodi.

Currently Spellbound makes Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. All three wines are approachable and food-friendly, perfect for causal dinners and black tie functions alike. Because Spellbound wines pair so well with food, they've become a favorite choice of fine restaurants.
