Winemaker's Notes:

Lamùri, or "love" in Sicilian dialect, is Tasca d'Almerita's most luscious, fruit-forward, and youthful Nero d'Avola. Made from 100% Nero d'Avola from 10-15 year old vines grown in sandy soils. The unique micro-climate provides Lamùri its pleasant freshness and elegance.

Intense ruby-red in color, Lamùri offers lush aromas of blackberry, mulberry and cherry. On the palate, this wine is incredibly rich, with velvety tannins and a refreshing acidity. Recommended with Mediterranean fare, such as pasta, roasted lamb and barbecued kebabs or ribs.

Additional wines from Tasca d'Almerita:

About Tasca d'Almerita:

It was 1830 when brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca bought the former stronghold of Regaleali, which lies on the borderline of the provinces of Palermo and Caltanissetta and in the heart of Sicily. Much has changed since then: the introduction of the use of espalier, the complete restructuring of the cellars, the use of finished barrels for ageing, and the complete renovation of the equipment park - today the most vanguard of Europe - only to mention a few innovations. However, what has never changed in the 180 years of the wineries history is the love of the land, the respect for a noble and ancient art: wine, and the cultivation of the grape in all of its phases. To practice viticulture for many generations means first of all to have clearly understood and interpreted the value and character of this magnificent material above that of the grape, Europe's fruit of life. It is with pride that the Tasca d'Almerita family carries the traditions of yesterday into the future. And it is with the spirit of innovation that the Tasca d'Almerita family faces the challenges of tomorrow already today.

Winemaker's Notes:

"The warmth of the Wahluke Slope consistently produces Chardonnays with an appealing tropical fruit character. The 2004 Indian Wells Chard is no exception. The wine delivers pineapple and mango aromas with hints of vanilla, caramel and brown sugar spice. This is a luscious Chardonnay with a soft, supple finish." - Bob Bertheau, Winemaker

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.

Winemaker's Notes:

We produce artisan crafted, Willamette Valley Pinot Gris from carefully selected vineyards. This pale straw colored Pinot Gris displays generous floral, pear, and white peach aromas. On the palate this beautifully balanced wine is initially crisp with zesty citrus and granny smith apple flavors that lead into a delightfully fruity finish which is long and extremely clean. This refreshing wine goes extraordinarily well with shellfish, creamy pasta dishes, light appetizers and sunny weather. Enjoy!
"
"A ripe Oregon gris, this wine has a luxurious opulence that brings to mind Alsace wines. It smells of pears and apples overlaid with notes of vanilla bean, nutmeg and sweet pea blossoms. On the palate it's rich and elegant, concentrated and deep, its pear flavors brought to a close with a lofty minerality. It will stand up to choucroute with aplomb."

My Notes:

Additional wines from Benton Lane:

About Benton Lane:

Steve and Carol Girard have been owners of Benton-Lane since 1988. Carol and Steve shared a passionate desire to produce great Pinot Noir but decided their native California was probably not the best place in which to make it. Instead, they headed to Oregon where the cooler climate offered the possibility of producing Pinot Noir with better balance and structure.

After countless months of looking at possible properties, Carol and Steve discovered an old sheep ranch called "Sunnymount" in the southern Willamette Valley. It was immediately apparent Sunnymount held great potential as a vineyard site. The property is in the foothills of the costal mountain range on the west side of the valley with hillsides sloping east by southeast, a perfect orientation for planting Pinot Noir.

Sunnymount straddled the border between Benton and Lane counties with some of the land being in each, and so the name Benton-Lane was born. Carol and Steve purchased the property in 1988 and planting of Pinot Noir commenced in 1989. Benton-Lane’s first vintage was 1992 which was custom produced at another local winery. This process continued until 1997 when the Benton-Lane winery was constructed.

Benton-Lane produced Pinot Noir exclusively until 2003. In 2004, the winery began full-scale commercial production of Pinot Gris from grapes purchased from carefully selected Willamette Valley growers.

An Eric Solomon joint venture with Isaac Fernandez. Tank fermented 100% Tempranillo that has been aged in older American and French oak. Picked from a 70 year old vineyard located 2,700 ft. in elevation. "Creta" means "Chalk" which is an important mineral component found in the top vineyards of the Ribera del Duero.
My Notes:

About Creta:

CRETA is a partnership between Eric Solomon & Isaac Fernández Montaña. Isaac is one of the team of winemakers working at Mariano Garcia's family bodega, Mauro, located in Tudeladel Duero. Mariano Garcia is perhaps Spain's greatest winemaker and, with thirty vintages at Vega Sicilia under his belt, he is arguably one of the finest winemakers in the world. Isaac is Mariano's nephew and great winemaking clearly seems to run in the family. Isaac's philosophy is this: "I try to make wines of the highest possible quality based on each year and look to be able to offer to them to the world with reasonable and competitive prices. I try to respect to the maximum the identity of the vineyards and of the grapes with which I work, despite this it is not an impediment to be able to develop my wines and to equip to them with an elegance that differentiates to them from the rest."

My Notes:

About Bodegas y Vinedos Luna Beberide:

Alejandro Luna is the owner of this moderately sized estate. Born in Ponferrada he spent 10 years, from the age of 16 to the age of 26, in Madrid studying toward his Bachelor’s and Law degrees. After finishing his academic work, he came to work as director for the family winery in 2001 which was started in 1987.

70 hectares of vines are planted between 450 and 900 meters, on south facing slopes in calcerous clay or decomposed slate. Vines range in age from 20 years for foreign grapes to 60 years for Mencia. 5 Hectare are used for experimental vineyards looking at how foreign grapes take to Bierzo’s climate; they are planted with about 30 varieties including Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Macabeo, Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc. No herbicides or pesticides are used on the vineyards. The philosophy of the winery is to produce wines based on quality of and respect for the land, primarily from native grapes along with grapes from other parts of the world.

Winemaking starts with all grapes being hand harvested into 18 kilo boxes. Careful cluster sorting, eliminating unsound bunches continues the push toward quality. All varietals are fermented separately with native yeasts prior to aging in oak barrels. All of the wines are bottled unfiltered.

Winery is located in Manchuela, Casa Blanca region, province of Cuenca, 140 miles southeast of Madrid. Grapes are sourced from two vineyards with a total of 26 acres planted by Mr. de la Serna. Soils have a dominant clay-limestone component and belong to four different types: sandy-clay (very shallow and very poor), silty-clay soil, deep claylimestone and clay-dominated clay limestone soil. The climate is very harsh continental.

About Bodegas Jimenez Landi:

José Benavides Jiménez-Landi and Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi were raised among concrete tanks and old press machines. At the age of 27 they both decided to dedicate their lives exclusively to wine, and in 2004 they restored the old winery introducing new technologies and machinery with the single target of producing maximum possible quality, based in respect to environment and tradition.

The small estate is located in Méntrida and is in an old typical Toledana house where the oldest part, the cave, dates to the 16th century and was used by their ancestors to elaborate wine in clay vats. With romantic 16th century gardens, the estate has always been linked to the family, and the family always linked to winemaking and viticulture.

Winemaker's Notes:

At the dawn of Roman Mythology, Neptune and his son, Triton, were gods of rivers and lakes and were depicted astride gallant stallions which represented waves upon the waters. The river Duero plays a very important role in the history of the wine. The ancient vines were planted in gravel strewn sandy soil created by the river. The wretched soil prevented infestations that devastated vineyards throughout the world.

Today you can enjoy this elegant wine created from old vines of Tempranillo from the best areas in the south of Zamora province. Meticulously vinified in small lots and aged in the best French oak for fifteen months, the wine has a distinctive balance of ripe red fruit flavors and a delicate spiciness. A hint of dark chocolate completes the long finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Bodegas Triton:

About Bodegas Triton:

Owned by the Gil family, the winery is located in the village of Villanueva de Campean near Zamora in the historic area known as de la Tierra del Vino, The Land of Wine. This designation pre-dates the current designation of the nearby appellation of Toro. The region known as de la Tierra del Vino should have been included in the D.O. Toro but was forgotten when the boundaries were drawn. This region was chosen for this winery because of the unique soils, similar to those found within the D. O. Toro.
