Winemaker's Notes:

A marriage of 88% Mendocino County Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% California Merlot.

A blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Malbec, 25% Syrah and 15% Carmenere.

Deep ruby, shading to purple. Black currant, cherries, leather and capsicum; hints of vanilla and fresh-roasted coffee on the nose. Flavorful, full bodied, food-friendly with a good balance between acidity and sweetness of alcohol, as well as fruit and oak. Well-structured and complex, concluding in a long finish.

Well-matched with red meats, hearty casseroles and flavorful cheeses.

About Vina MontGras:

VIÑA MONTGRAS, located in Chile’s Colchagua Valley, was established in the early 1990s by brothers Hernán and Eduardo Gras, together with their business partner Cristián Hartwig. Santiago Margozzini serves as head winemaker, with renowned California winemaker Paul Hobbs serving as consultant.

Colchagua Valley, a serene sub-valley of Rapel, is situated in Chile’s Central Region at the heart of the country’s wine-producing zone. Nestled between the Pacific Coastal Range to the west and the snow-capped Andes to the east, this rustic valley is a protected environment with positive maritime influences that foster a terroir ideal for producing quality wines.

Five ranges of MontGras wines are available: Estate, Reserva, Quatro, Limited Edition, and Ninquén.

In 1996 MontGras, along with five other area wineries, founded the Colchagua Valley Wine Route to promote and facilitate tourism and educate the public about the traditions of Chilean winemaking. Guided tours and tastings at MontGras are available Monday through Friday year-round, by appointment only.

This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault grapes has produced a typical Rhône Valley style; full of fruit and spice aromas, it has soft tannins and good body.

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.
