Additional wines from Domaine du Vieux Lazaret:

About Domaine du Vieux Lazaret:

The vineyards of Domaine du Vieux Lazaret are spread over 90 hectares, split into 35 different parcels of vines throughout Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is today amongst the largest domains in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with 80 hectares planted in red grape varieties and 10 planted with white grapes. The number of parcels enables the Domaine du Vieux Lazaret to give greater complexity to its wines due to the diversity of soils, grape types and differing ages of vines.

Harvesting of the grapes is done entirely by hand, with very strict selection of the best grapes to enhance the quality of the Domaine du Vieux Lazaret wine. This limits the maximum production, under the A.O.C laws, to 35 hectoliters per hectare.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2010 Miss Harry continues the success of this beautifully structured, fruit-concentrated red wine that absolutely delivers with integrity, intrigue, class and complexity in a very approachable style. The color of 2010 Miss Harry is bright red with a deep purple hue. The aroma is of black berry and red and black forest berries, pepper, spice, garrigue, dried lavender and herbs with layers of creamy complexity offered by the extended barrel maturation on lees.

The palate is wonderfully full, showing ripe black berries, strawberries and plums, and has a concentrated core of fruit essence with a racy acidity that gives the wine incredible vivacity. The finish is long, continuous and fresh. 2010 Miss Harry is quite an exceptional wine and is absolutely world-class.

Blend: 44% Grenache, 39% Shiraz, 8% Mourvedre, 4% Carignan, 4% Cinsault

Additional wines from Hewitson:

About Hewitson:

Dean Hewitson is driven by passion. His creation of individual, exquisite wines from the ancient vineyards of South Australia is for your indulgence.

Dean Hewitson has been indeed very fortunate to be tutored by some of the best wine makers and wine scientists in the world. Having completed his degree at Roseworthy, he worked at one of Australia's best wineries, visited some of the world's best wineries experiencing fifteen vintages worldwide, and spent two years at UC Davis, California, where he completed his Masters. Through all of this, to be guided through wine evaluations and wine making techniques of the great wines by the masters themselves has certainly been a privilege and a wonderful opportunity for him. He therefore is able to draw on a very wide spectrum of ideas, practices, philosophies and experiments. These are encapsulated in his wines.

Hunting down the right varieties in the right vineyard in the right region was the next step. Each variety has been selected on the basis of being able to produce a wine of world class that, in particular, the old vineyards of South Australia are able to produce. Geographical isolation and in part a fluke of human non-intervention have preserved pre-phylloxera vineyards that are more closely linked to the original clones from Europe than anywhere on earth.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 vintage of this wine was ranked #31 on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2011

This Chianti Classico Riserva is ruby red tending towards garnet. The bouquet is rich, intense and complex with notes of black cherry and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with rich red berry fruit flavors complimenting a backbone of tannin.

My Notes:

About Castello di Monsanto:

In 1961 Fabrizio Bianchi, a successful textile manufacturer from Milan, purchased Castello di Monsanto and, in so doing, realized a long-held dream. Captivated by the beauty of Tuscany and convinced of the property's winemaking potential, Bianchi undertook the complete restoration of the vineyards and winery, while his wife, Giuliana, oversaw the restoration of the villa. Bianchi has relentlessly pursued the highest standards of quality, with particular emphasis on grape selection, natural vinification and a judicious use of technology.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 vintage of Plexus is an intricately structured blend comprised of rich and vibrant fruit from Barossa Valley's old, low yielding vines. A true refection of Barossa's soil and climate, Plexus expresses a combination of lifted aromatic red fruits with a touch of savory spice and subtle oak. On the palate, red and black fruit combine with layers of spice. Intense and elegant, Plexus demonstrates ripe, fine tannins, an impressive concentration, and a seamless balance. Traditional winemaking practices and fifteen months in French oak barriques will ensure themage worthiness of this fourth release.

Additional wines from John Duval:

About John Duval:

John Duval began his self-titled label in 2003. Duval graduated from Adelaide University in 1973 with a degree in agriculture and winemaking before becoming a winemaker for Penfolds for the next 29 years. Duval was appointed Chief Winemaker at Penfolds in 1986 and was lucky enough to oversee one of the most dynamic periods of change in the Australian wine industry. He received Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London in 1989; Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London in 1991 and again in 2000; and saw the 1990 Penfolds Grange named the Wine of the Year by the prestigious US magazine Wine Spectator in 1995.

Duval focuses on fruit that comes from older vines in Barossa, including Rhone varietals, leading to one of his stellar ones, "Plexus."

My Notes:

Additional wines from Borsao:

About Borsao:

Founded in 1958 in the town of Borja, called Borsao in the 4th century B.C., this winery represents what can be done with Garnacha, a grape that is not well appreciated by the Spanish press. Through meticulous selection, work in the fields and at reception time in the winery, modern winemaking produces this highly fruity wine. One of the best examples of the region known as "The Garnacha land of Spain", the lower part of the Ebro River.

Winemaker's Notes:

Intense fruity aromas of raspberry, plum, blackberry and cassis immediately greet you upon first sniff. These explosive fruit notes continue on the palate of this light-bodied, easy to drink Malbec. Soft tannins give way to a long finish making this wine enjoyable on its own or paired with roast pork or lamb spareribs.
My Notes:

About Lunta:

Lunta Malbec comes from the southernmost parcel of the Mendel estate vineyard which lies in Lunlunta, a small district within Mendoza's Lujan de Cuyo department as you approach the Mendoza River. These vines produce a fruitier, more medium-bodied wine as compared to the well-structured Mendel Malbec, and it can be enjoyed at a younger age.

Additional wines from Columbia Crest:

About Columbia Crest:

Founded in 1983, Columbia Crest has grown from a small winery in a relatively unknown wine region to one of the most significant wineries in the U.S. and a major force behind Washington state's emergence as a world-class wine region. Over the years, the winery has remained committed to delivery handcrafted, small-lot wines, as well as affordable, superior quality everyday wines. In 2009, the winery reached a milestone when Wine Spectator named their 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon "Wine of the Year," the first time a wine from Washington state has received the ranking. This accolade was not only a historic moment for Columbia Crest, but for all wineries in Washington and reinforced the belief that the region is among the best wine-producing areas in the world.

#22 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2013

Clean, bright dark-cherry red of medium depth with a pink rim. Notably expressive nose with spicy notes of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and cloves and fine wood aromas against a background of ripe dark fruit. It is a well-structured, balanced wine with a lively, enticing freshness that combines with polished tannins to fill the mouth with pleasurable sensations. Long aftertaste, marked by the subtlety of a brand whose traditional elegance, complexity and aromatic power are particularly enriched in this vintage.

An excellent wine to accompany charcoal-grilled meat, roasts, small game, medium-aged cheeses, Iberian cured sausages, etc.

My Notes:

Additional wines from La Rioja Alta:

About La Rioja Alta:

On the 10th of July 1890, five families shared their passion for wine and founded La Rioja Alta, S.A. That day was the start of an ongoing searching for excellence that their descendants still pursue nowadays. Since then we have managed to get the best from the marriage of our tradition in wine ageing and the state-of-the-art technology in grape fermentation. Nowadays we are an international reference of great Rioja wines. Our wines are the result of an exhaustive selection of our most exclusive grapes and a slow ageing process that provides them with elegance, complexity and sophistication. They are patiently settle in more than 30,000 American oak casks fashioned by our own coopers. We take great responsibility in making our wines using our own grapes. Wines with personality and wines with soul.

About Vina Zaco:

Viña Zaco is the rebellious new Rioja from Bodegas Bilbainas—a Rioja with a contemporary twist. Zaco takes its name from one of the oldest vineyards in Bodegas Bilbainas in the Rioja Alta. But that's where Zaco's links with the past begin and end. With its abundance of fresh red berries, notes of liquorice and faint undertones of spice, Zaco is the ultimate modern expression of Rioja.

About Au Bon Climat:

Au Bon Climat was created to produce high quality handcrafted wine from the traditional Burgundian varietals. They are one of the few California wineries to explore the gamut of these varieties: Aligote, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery is located within the Bien Nacido Vineyard, the source of the majority of their fruit.
