Winemaker's Notes:

The Saint-Esprit's deep color has a dark, plum-like hue. The nose is classical Syrah, with berry fruit, violet, licorice and spices. It has a full, rounded palate with delicate tannins. Saint-Esprit is a unique wine in the Cotes-du-Rhone appellation and can be paired with Provençale-style cuisine, game, stuffings and mixed grills.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Delas Freres:

About Delas Freres:

Founded over 160 years ago, Delas Frères was acquired by Champagne Deutz in 1977.

Delas Frères cultivates vineyards on the steep granite slopes of the northern Rhône, in some of the region's most prestigious appellations. Additional grapes are supplied through long-term agreements with southern Rhone growers dedicated to providing only top quality grapes.

Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange to epitomize finesse and elegance, recent Delas Frères vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have won renewed praise for their intensity of flavor and excellent value.

Winemaker's Notes:

A dry, low cropping season following a continuation of drought conditions in Southern Australia which have now entered their eighth year.

The color has bright youthful purples and dark red, with an aroma of mixed berries with peppery, spicy overtones. On the palate the wine has very sweet fruit with fine grained tannins, excellent fleshy middle palate and a long soft finish.

My Notes:

About Bulletin Place:

Named for Bulletin Place House, Australia's oldest commercial building, which for 20 years was the home of Len Evans Wines. Wines for this label range from grapes grown in The Riverland and Adelaide plain. Intense ruby color. Expressive bouquet with notes of raspberries, bilberries and cherries, enlivened by a touch of spice and a depth of vanilla. Charming fruit in the mouth with good structure that highlights concentrated flavors and fleshy tannins. Nice complexity on the tasting resulting in good length. This Crianza is made from our best "cuvees" from the 2008 vintage and conserves in full the character derived from top quality grapes.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Marques de Caceres:

About Marques de Caceres:

Founded in 1970, with its first release in 1975, Marqués de Cáceres the Rioja bodega was established by Henri Forner, whose family has been active in the wine business for generations. The winery is named for a Spanish peer who was also an investor in the winery and a friend of Henri Forner.

The Forner family fled Spain during the Spanish Civil War and settled in France. In the early 1960s, Henri Forner and his brother Elysée bought and restored two abandoned châteaux, Château Camensac and Château Larose-Trintaudon. These châteaux are now recognized as two of the finest properties in Bordeaux. When Henri decided to establish a bodega in his homeland, he selected what he considered the finest viticultural area in Spain: Cenicero in Rioja Alta.

Emile Peynaud, former professor and chief wine researcher at the University of Bordeaux, was initial consultant to the winery. Today, Michel Rolland is wine consultant at Marqués de Cáceres and Henri and his daughter, Christine, are at the helm. The vinification methods at Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres are similar to those used in Bordeaux. Thus, French winemaking techniques and expertise have been applied to native Spanish grapes to produce one of the finest modern Riojas.

2009 International Wine Cellar rating: 88 points

Winemaker's Notes:

Aradia History: Aradia was a mythical goddess, daughter of the sun and the moon, two important elements in Penley's winemaking abilities. The sun represents strength and Australia's ability to produce its unique style of wines through the suns capability to ripen during harvest. The moon effects our seasons which in turn affects our grape growing abilities. Aradia also represents the duality in Penley's Tolley and Penfold family history.

The Wine: This chardonnay has been made to be crisp with fresh fruit characters and soft oak that will allow some maturation if required. The color is medium yellow with touches of grapey green. The aroma is emphasised by melon and fresh citrus fruits with a hint of soft French oak. The flavors are smooth with lingering melon fruits and subtle oak enhancing the varietal flavors, without overpowering them. The 2008 vintage has produced a stylish and elegant cool climate chardonnay.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Penley Estate:

About Penley Estate:

Established in 1988, by Kym Tolley, a direct descendant of the famous Penfold and Tolley winemaking families – the name Penley is an amalgam of the first three and last three letters from each title.

Tolley has over 25 years of winemaking experience, including being involved in the making of many vintages of the famous Penfolds Grange. The estate is located in the heart of Coonawarra, with the vines planted in the famed "terra rossa" soils – bright red top-soils overlaying soft free-draining limestone.

Critically acclaimed as one of Coonawarra's leading estates, and voted as one of the International Wineries of the Year 2001 by Wine & Spirits Magazine, while the Reserve Cabernet voted best wine of Coonawarra 2001, as judged by winemaking peers and critics.

The Penley Estate signature style comprises distinct, precise, terrior driven wines – not overly oaked or excessively alcoholic. They display ripe clean fruit with true regional character – the senior wines will age for many years.

My Notes:

About Château Les Roches de Ferrand:

The small appellation of Fronsac is located in the Libourne region of the Bordelais, which contains other well-known appellations such as Pomerol and St. Emilion. Made typically from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, wines from Fronsac are known for their soft richness and accessibility but with enough structure to keep for many years.

This selection, made by Rémy Rousselot in the tiny village of Saint-Aignan, is made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc and aged in oak barrels for about 12 months before bottling. Rémy learned wine making from both his father and grandfather and also his studies at the Institute of Oenology in Bordeaux. He chose to take the best from all three to develop his own style of wine making which met approval from his peers since his first wine, his 1981, took the gold medal at the Bordeaux competition. He once served a bottle of his 1981 for lunch at his home during a visit and it was delicious! So who says Merlot can't age?

My Notes:

Additional wines from Veramonte:

About Veramonte:

Veramonte represents a return to Agustin Huneeus' Chilean roots. When he spearheaded development of the Veramonte Estate in 1990, there were less than 100 acres of grapevines planted in the Casablanca Valley.

The coastal mountain ranges surrounding the Casablanca estate create a unique terroir with a diversity of microclimates. The valley floor's cool climate is reminiscent of Carneros and ideal for growing premium Chardonnay. The foothills are warmer, akin to the more Northern reaches of the Napa Valley. Here, the climate is more suited to varieties like Carmenëre, the lost Bordeaux grape that has become Chile's citizen and the basis of Primus, our racy, exotic Chilean blend.

Using the latest viticultural technology developed in California, rootstock has been matched to each vineyard block and clone. Vertical trellising and dense vine spacing balance growth and fruit production. Veramonte's Casablanca vineyard produces significantly lower yields than other grape growing regions in Chile, resulting in grapes with more intensity and concentration.

Recognizing that the region also had potential as a tourist destination for its proximity to Santiago, Huneeus began to plant the estate and in 1995, constructed the first Napa Valley style hospitality center in Chile. The first wines were released in 1996.

Winemaker's Notes:

Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in color. The nose has stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical notes that eap from the glass. The palate is expressive with stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical flavors that linger on through the crisp finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Dashwood:

About Dashwood:

The Dashwood brand was developed by Vavasour Wines in 1989. Given the commitment to using the Vavasour brand for wines true to the Awatere Valley, it provided flexibility within the company's portfolio to have the Dashwood range as a blend of fruit from Marlborough's Wairau and Awatere Valleys.

Dashwood wines bring the luscious, clean fruit characters of the Wairau Valley into harmony with the flinty, or mineral, characters of the Awatere (resulting from the comparatively cooler but drier temperatures and slightly less fertile soils). Created by long-standing winemaker, Glenn Thomas, who joined Vavasour in 1988, Dashwood wines are made in an earlier drinking style than those carrying the Vavasour brand and are considered outstanding value for money by wine buyers across the globe.

Winemaker's Notes:

This Sauvignon Blanc is the first vintage released into the U.S from Rustenberg. Characteristics of green pepper, asparagus and gooseberry, with underlying tones of pineapple and passion fruit are sustained on a fresh, crispy, and well-balanced palate with prodigious length.
My Notes:

About Rustenberg:

Rustenberg is one of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine farms, with a viticultural history dating back to 1682. In 1941, Peter and Pamela Barlow bought the Rustenberg farm, situated in a prime location on the slopes of the Simonsberg. After taking control of the farm operations in 1987, their son Simon ushered in a new era, catapulting the historic estate to the ranks of South Africa’s winemaking elite.

The renaissance began with a large scale replanting of the vineyards using virus-free clones imported from France, followed by sweeping renovations to the winery and the hiring of new viticultural and winemaking teams. As Wine Spectator recently observed, "Rustenberg has all the qualifications of a world-class wine estate: a long history of winemaking…and ideal terroir, with deep-red, clay-rich granite soils that are located on a variety of slopes and elevations." Rustenberg has achieved tremendous critical and commercial success, and today the celebrated estate’s bottlings are among South Africa’s most iconic and sought-after wines.

Brimming with fresh fruit, the 2009 Riesling displays fresh apricot, peach and tangerine supported by lanolin and lime. Peach and apricot aromas are complimented by tea leaf on the palate with lively acidity and minerality. The finish is long, off-dry and deftly balanced of acid and sugar.
