Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby red colored with slight orange reflection, between the 4 Crus of Mauro Veglio, Gattera is the one, which tastes nearer to "Classic" Barolo: in the beginning it is evolved and warm with aromas of peaches and apricots that have been dried in the sun on the balcony and a little closed with warm tannins that are decisive, but not aggressive. These dry characteristics come from the south, south-western exposition: the afternoon sun warms the earth and the grapes, and the position similar to an amphitheatre protects them from the winds of the north. When the wine first enters the market it is judged to be richer and more evolved than the other 4 Crus, and with time one always appreciates the particularly warm and elegant spices.

Our families were farmers for many generations, like many other families in the Langhe. In 1992, Mauro began to drastically reduce the number of grapes per hectare and started to vinify on his own in his new cantina. He utilized shorter macerations with temperature controlled rotary-fermenters and aging in small oak barrels, and he started to produce, little by little, wines that were more elegant with higher quality grapes.

Unlike the tendency of contemporary philosophy production which means the same as manipulating nature, we believe in natural systems of cultivation and vinification: we reject the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides in our vineyards. Any chemical process is refused in the winemaking as well as any artificial concentration or aromatization: this means that the quality of the wine is the result of the natural character of the vineyards, their soil composition and microclimatic differences determining the maturity of the individual vintages. The result is the authentic essence of our "terroir" in a glass.

The grapes are hand picked. The whole cluster grapes are directly pressed in a pneumatic press with a long and soft pressing, hence the coral/ light pink salmon color. Cremant Rosé is made by the Champagne Methode. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle. Afterwards it stays on its lees for 9 months follow by the remuage and disgorging.

The history of the Albrecht family as winegrowers can be traced back to 1425 with Romanu Albrecht, who was established in the town of Thann.

The fifteenth century was golden era for the Alsace wines and it was during this period that the winegrowers guild of Alsace was founded. Each year, the most deserving vinegrower was elected by the guild of the winegrowers as Bangard, a highly respected positions. It was held by 8 generations of Albrecht's, between 1520 and 1698.

Domaine Albrecht experienced a major development under the guidance of Lucien Albrecht, the father of Jean, to become one of the most important in Alsace with holdings in 9 villages surounding Orschwihr. Lucien Albrecht, extended the winery with new cellars and expanded the sales of his wines in bottles. In 1972, Lucien Albrecht was also a pioneer of Cremand d'Alsace. Today the Cremant is one of their specialities and a major part of the business.

150 years were needed to make up the Domaine Albrecht located in the very best Alsace terroirs. Jean Albrecht is now the ninth generation settled in Orschwihr, leading the Domaine.

A vermillion hue and an intense fragrance of blueberry and blackberry. Elegant in mouth, the wine has a fruity structure and mellow tannins. A complex wine that is nicely structured, and well balanced.

A perfect accompaniment for all meats and game and ripened cheese.

The vines lie on south facing clayey-limestone hillsides covered with stony gravel. 30% of the vineyard is over 40 years old and 70% between 8 and 25 years old. The grape varieties planted are 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Carignan is located at Carignan de Bordeaux, 10km to the east of Bordeaux. The dominant grape variety, as for the other right bank Appellations (Saint Emilion and Pomerol), is Merlot. This variety is in its element on the clayey limestone hillsides and offers supple, well-rounded and highly fruity wines. The Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux AOC (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) was defined by the French government in 1937 as an area of 3,400 hectares spread over 37 communes on the right bank of the river Garonne, forming a narrow strip of vineyards some 60km long and 5km wide from the north of Bordeaux to Langon. A great deal of technical progress has been made throughout the Côtes de Bordeaux and the wines' excellent value and quality have made them much sought after.
