About Baileyana Winery:

Baileyana's winemaking facility is in the heart of the Edna Valley. The building was designed and built to Christian Roguenant's specifications. It houses a first-rate fruit delivery system, small presses, and many small open-top fermentors. In an adjacent building are three climate-controlled barrel rooms. The winery design allows Christian and his winemaking team a number of options for fermenting and aging the wines. Because they can treat each clone as a separate wine, they can identify and enhance the particularities of the very best lots. They then blend selected lots together in a way that creates the best of the best-the winemaker signature on our world-class Baileyana wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Foreshadow Cabernet Sauvignon showcases best J Bookwalter Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Columbia Valley, Red Mountain and Yakima Valley appellations. Both aromatically and on the palate the wine displays a medley of dark fruits led by plums, blackberries, blueberries and figs. Secondary and tertiary notes are more subtle and offer hints of truffles, violets, baking spices and sandalwood followed by a warm cola bath. The wine enters the palate sweet and round and finishes with polished, fine grained tannins. The lush, long finish is complimented by the natural sweetness and acidity of the wine. Recommended cellaring 6 – 12 years.

Winemaker's Notes:

A lovely, precocious wine with a brilliant, deep garnet color and seductive, lush aromatics, in this wine spice and fruits dominate. Rich pie cherry and dried cherry impressions, with plummy blue and black fruit for depth and richness anchor the palate and lead to a sweet fruit entry. Tea leaves and spices are assertive, whether showing gingerbread, molasses, nutmeg, cardamon or delicate black pepper. The balance is almost perfect, with great acid, excellent weight without being ponderous, no alcohol apparent, nice breadth and length on the palate, and a bright, clean and elegant finish. Elegance, richness and balance—what we all aspire to. And what a standard-bearing pinot noir should reflect.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Col Solare exhibits aromas of black cherry, currant, and ripe black berries, together with subtle notes of espresso and vanilla in the nose. Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby red with violet hues. The impact of the aromas is intense and fascinating. The bouquet is complex, initially characterized by intense notes of mature fruit, such as cherries, plums and small black berries, which then fade into hints of spices, mint, sweet tobacco and refined balsamic notes on the finish. On the palate it is full-bodied and harmonious and characterized by the finesse of its silky tannins. The taste is elevated by a remarkable pleasantness and freshness and a texture in which each varietal adds its own distinctive trait. The finish is incredibly persistent, with an aftertaste of black berry fruit and cocoa.

Blend: 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot

My Notes:

Additional wines from Ruffino:

About Ruffino:

In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make the most known and loved Italian wines in the world from the heart of Tuscany. At their winery in Pontassieve, just outside of Florence, they began producing wines according to a strict quality standard and a rigorous technical research. Soon, Ruffino became an international symbol of the Chianti region, and won numerous awards, including the prestigious gold medal at the Bordeaux Wine Fair in 1895, affirming the quality of its wine.

In 1913, the Folonari family purchased Ruffino and brought new talent, energy and enthusiasm into the company. They started on a nearly century-long pursuit to develop a collection of estates in Tuscany, all of which matched the standard of quality and uniqueness which was the trademark of Ruffino wine.

Over the last sixty years, Ruffino has established seven prominent estates in Tuscany, all situated within the major DOCG production regions including Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti and Chianti Classico. Today, Ruffino continues to meld century-long Tuscan traditions with new state-of-the-art cellar technology and modern winemaking for an ideal symbiosis with the energy of the contemporary Italian lifestyle.

Winemaker's Notes:

The strong Pacific Ocean influence and red clayish soils concur to foster this refreshing, crisp, pale yellow-green wine. In nose, very fine grapefruit, white flowers and citric hints combine with a perfect mineral character. It's an expressive Sauvignon Blanc, with a mineral and slightly salty mouth, with great acidity and a lovely long finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Cono Sur:

About Cono Sur:

Cono Sur Vineyards and Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines conveying the spirit of the new world. Their name refers to the company's geographic position; it represents wines proudly made in South America's Southern Cone, on whose western edge lays Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Their logo is a freehand drawing of the silhouette of South America. Right from the start, Cono Sur applied new ideas and technology to winemaking traditional methods. Winemaker's Notes:

Almira Los Dos is bright cherry red with violet hues and has a pleasantly intense and complex aroma of subtle fruit and balsam, with a full, well-structured and lingering taste.

This wine pairs well with aged hams, manchego cheese, and paella morisco or valenciana.

Blend: 85% Garnacha, 15% Syrah

My Notes:

Additional wines from Los Dos:

About Los Dos:

Red wines predominate in the DO of Campo de Borja, with Garnacha playing a leading role. Syrah, however, is not often seen in this part of Spain. Though common in the Rhone Valley, blending Syrah with Garnacha was an unusual winemaking decision which has set Almira apart from other wines of this area.
