Winemaker's Notes:

A Champagne House is eventually judged on the quality of its Brut Non Vintage. It is in the making of such a wine that the true Art of Champagne blending reveals itself.

This is an art in which the House of Veuve Clicquot excels. Our Brut Yellow Label reflects the superb vineyards we own and the consistent nature of our House style.

The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, while a touch of Pinot Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential in a perfectly balanced wine.

Additional wines from Veuve Clicquot:

About Veuve Clicquot:

The House was founded by Philippe Clicquot in 1772. Since its inception, Veuve Clicquot has been a specialist in Champagnes based on Pinot Noir, especially Rosé. In 1803, François Clicquot was married to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin. Madame Clicquot was widowed just two years later. Veuve Clicquot (Veuve means widow in French) took over her husband's business. In 1810, the house took the name Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. The way that she ran her company, from risky overseas ventures to startling technological innovations, changed Champagne forever. Her motto is still the guiding principle of our company – "Only one quality – the finest."

In 1816, Mme. Clicquot invented the process, called rémuage or riddling, that removes the yeast from the bottle. She used holes cut in her kitchen table to perfect the method of slowly tilting and turning the bottles to gather the spent yeast in the neck of the bottle. Once settled it could be removed by freezing the neck in a brine of salt and water, removing it, and recorking.

The company was taken public in 1963, and merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey in 1986. Today, Jacques Peters is the chief winemaker at Veuve Clicquot, and was appointed cellar master in 1985. He has undertaken an ambitious program since this time to upgrade the grape sources, improve the vineyards, and improve the cellars and production facilities.

This J Brut Rosé sparkles with a luminous cool pink hue and exudes delicate aromas of strawberry, nectarine and juicy red apples. On the palate, the wine opens with flavors of cherry, blood orange, citrus peel and the tropical star fruit that are underlined by a bright acidity that keeps the overall impression delightfully fresh with a lively, lingering finish. About J Vineyards & Winery:

Founded by Judy Jordan in 1986, J Vineyards & Winery is an independently owned Sonoma County winery. Located on Old Redwood Highway south of Healdsburg, the winery focuses on Brut and Brut Rose sparkling wines, as well as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris - terroir-driven varietal wines, produced from estate-grown grapes farmed primarily within Sonoma County's Russian River Valley appellation. In 1994, the first small lots of Pinot Noir varietal wines were produced at J, but sparkling wine continued to be the winery's focus. In 2006, J formally launched an estate varietal program based on its 254-acres of Russian River Valley vineyards. Today, under the direction of winemaker Melissa Stackhouse, J Vineyards & Winery produces several small-lot Pinot Noirs. The winery celebrates its 25th harvest in 2012.

Winemaker's Notes:

The "puzzle" of Conundrum lies partly in guessing the range of grape varieties used, because its exact composition is never revealed!

To create the layered flavors that go into the Conundrum blend, Sauvignon Blanc grapes were brought in from the Napa Valley, Muscat Canelli from Tulare County on the Central Coast, and Chardonnay and Viognier from Conundrum's vineyards in Monterey County.

About one quarter of the wine lots were fermented in stainless steel in order to preserve their individual fruit characteristics. The remaining lots were fermented in a combination of new and seasoned oak barrels for up to ten months.

Conundrum 2006 exhibits soft tropical notes of guava and cherimoya, also peach and honeysuckle. The rich perfume is supported by concentrated and focused layers of peach and apricot nectar, pear and green melon with spicy vanilla notes. The creamy texture and balanced acidity carries through the palate for a long finish.

Additional wines from Conundrum:

About Conundrum:

This unique, non-traditional white wine blend was created to offer full-flavored fruit and enough complexity to match the creative dishes being offered by today’s generation of chefs. Conundrum can be served with every course from appetizer to dessert, and pairs beautifully with spicy foods and full-flavored Asian cuisine.

The "conundrum", or puzzle, of this wine is in guessing which grapes make up the blend; a combination that includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli, Semillon and Viognier. Conundrum is a true California wine, with grapes sourced from Napa, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Tulare counties. Winemaker Jon Bolta began to craft the style for Conundrum in 1988.

The twist cap closure protects the fine aromas and flavors of this distinctive blend, allowing the bottle to be easily re-closed and refrigerated. The airtight cap also eliminates the possibility of cork taint.

Conundrum is owned by the Wagner family of Caymus Vineyards, but stands on its own as a separate brand. The Conundrum winery in Monterey County is close to the sources for most of the grape varietals that make up the wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

"96% Syrah. Its darkish rose color signals a deeper wine to follow, and this fairly rich, fresh and slightly juicy bottling comes through right on key. Its medium-full weight is balanced by vital acidity, and its bare hint of sweetness extends its fruit without reducing its desirability as a lightly vinous, thoroughly delightful partner to summertime meals."
-Connoisseurs' Guide

Pink is hot! Our Dry Rose was a big hit when we offered it exclusively to our Vintage Reserve Club members last year. Based on their feedback, we decided to release it nationally with this 2006 vintage. The name, Nellie's Garden, honors Nellie Stimson whose passion for gardening created the beautiful estate gardens at our Chateau in Woodinville. The wine is a special collaboration between our red winemaking team at Canoe Ridge Estate in eastern Washington and the white winemaking team at our Woodinville Chateau, located outside of Seattle. We receive the red fruit at Canoe Ridge Estate where Joshua Maloney, our red winemaker, gives it just enough skin contact for the perfect color. Then he drains the juice off the skins and turns it over to Brennon Leighton, our white winemaker, who then cold ferments most of the juice to keep all those fresh fruit and floral aromas. What a team effort and what a wonderfully refreshing dry rose! It shows beautiful fruit aromas and flavors of strawberry, cherry, raspberry with subtle spice notes. Enjoy this during your spring and summer parties and BBQ's. It's the perfect "deck" wine... versatile and fun!

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.
