Winemaker's Notes:

The nose features plum and bright red fruits with a hint of roasted meats, earth, pepper and exotic spices. The palate has some wonderful delicate fruit with blackberry joining the party. A touch of dried herbs adds a savory edge with fine, lifted tannins providing a long finish. It's cracking wine with sophistication—but don't worry it's still a lot of fun.

Varietal Blend: Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre

About d'Arenberg:

One of the undisputed kings of Australian Shiraz and Rhone varietals, d'Arenberg has managed to turn individuality into an art form by doing a whole lot of little things differently. The original vineyards were established by Joseph Osborn in 1912 in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. A century on, the estate has grown to 345 acres, and the mantle now rests with fourth-generation winemaker, Chester Osborn. By maintaining a focus on traditional winemaking and nurturing their old-vine material, the Osborn clan has successfully established themselves as one of the country's leading producers of concentrated wines that are full of character.

Our 2009 Dancing Bull Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted in the Dancing Bull style of bold, intensely flavorful reds that are equally enjoyable at home on the dinner table or at a backyard BBQ. Our Cabernet Sauvignon reveals complex flavors of black currant layered with dark spices with a hint of herbs, vanilla, and milk chocolate.

Intense ruby red color with crushed black pepper and ripe dark fruit flavors. Full bodied with silky smooth tannins and a lingering palate. Subtle use of oak ensures a good balance between fruit and wood flavors.

About Porcupine Ridge:

In 1652 Jan van Riebeeck, a Dutch surgeon, eager to find a way to relieve the symptoms of scurvy, suggested to the Dutch East India Company that the Cape Province of South Africa would be suitable for growing grapes. Nine years later, the first wine was pressed from grapes grown on cuttings brought from France. The prime grape growing areas of South Africa spread out from Cape Town, and include the Paarl ("pearl" in Afrikaans), which to the east encompasses Franschhoek ("French corner"), home of the first French Huguenot settlers. Boekenhoutskloof, its homestead dating from 1784, is located in the Franschhoek Valley.

Marc Kent is the winemaker for the Boekenhoutskloof wines as well as the range of wines called Porcupine Ridge. There are approximately 20 hectares of vines at Boekenhoutskloof - 25% of which are planted to white varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier; and 75% of which consist of reds: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Porcupine Ridge is a handcrafted range of wines, celebrated for its uncompromising commitment to quality. The wines carry a distinctive label featuring an original pen and ink of the crested porcupine drawn by leading South Africa wildlife artist, Zakkie Eloff. These crested porcupines inhabit the vineyards of the Boekenhoutskloof homestead.

The 2008 Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon displays exceptional varietal characters, with aromas of briar, black cherry, mint, eucalypt, and violets. These are complemented by hints of cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate. The palate offers flavours of black cherry and cedar wrapped in a medium bodied frame with velvety tannins.
