Additional wines from Columbia Crest:

About Columbia Crest:

Founded in 1983, Columbia Crest has grown from a small winery in a relatively unknown wine region to one of the most significant wineries in the U.S. and a major force behind Washington state's emergence as a world-class wine region. Over the years, the winery has remained committed to delivery handcrafted, small-lot wines, as well as affordable, superior quality everyday wines. In 2009, the winery reached a milestone when Wine Spectator named their 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon "Wine of the Year," the first time a wine from Washington state has received the ranking. This accolade was not only a historic moment for Columbia Crest, but for all wineries in Washington and reinforced the belief that the region is among the best wine-producing areas in the world.

Winemaker's Notes:

We craft this wine to be our complex yet approachable Merlot. The wine off ers aromas of black cherry, leather and spice with layers of rich dark red fruit and cola flavors. Think of this inviting wine as a great "everyday red".

Serve with beef, lamb, grilled salmon, hearty pastas.

Varietal Blend: 89% Merlot, 8% Syrah, 3% Malbec.

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.

Winemaker's Notes:

Sourced from Columbia Valley vineyards in eastern Washington including our Cold Creek, Canoe Ridge Estate and Indian Wells vineyards.

Our goal with the Columbia Valley Cabernet is to highlight concentrated Washington red fruit in an accessible style. This is our inviting Cab with plenty of complexity and structure with silky tannins. It's also very versatile with food-try it with beef, pork or pasta.

Winemaker's Notes:

In true Woop Woop style this wine is full of flavour! The fruit is sourced from key Cabernet growing regions, predominantly McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The result is a smooth rich Cabernet generously laden with mulberries, black cherries and spice on the palate that lingers for a long lasting finish.
My Notes:

About Woop Woop:

Slang for "in the middle of nowhere", Woop Woop isn't a bad name for a ripper Aussie wine. Woop Woop is a collaboration between Ben Riggs, winemaker and Tony Parkinson, vineyard owner. They sourced grapes from the backblocks - outside their normal area of operation – they almost went to Woop Woop and back to find the right fruit. Nearly to the Outback, way past the black stump. Woop Woop wines capture the essence of ripe grapes sourced from Currency Creek, McLaren Vale and the Riverina, together with a good dose of Aussie humor.
