Winemaker's Notes:

The color is ruby red, bright and intense; the vivacity makes it tempting. The aromas are very delicate, with blackberry and plum. On the whole, the aromas are pleasant and teasing. Saltiness and acidity are in the foreground of this wine, but do not hide its polifenolic power. The amplitude of this Barbera is very interesting together with its persistent aftertaste.

Additional wines from Pelissero:

About Pelissero:

Azienda Agricola Pelissero is a family-run vine-growing estate located in the district of Treiso, in the heart of the Barbaresco zone. Many gradual changes have been performed by the successive generations of the Pelissero family, who transformed their business from grape growing and selling begun by Giovanni Pelissero, into winemaking of all their estate-grown grapes.

The first bottles of our own wine date back to 1960 and were produced by Luigi Pelissero, whose work was followed by his son, Oenologist Giorgio who after finishing his studies, decided to work full time at the winery. The Pelissero family takes care of all the winery work; from pruning the vines to marketing the wine.

The estate consists of twenty hectares of vineyards which yield a total of 80,000 to 100,000 (depending on the year) bottles of wine, namely Dolcetto d'Alba from two vineyards (Munfrina and Augenta), Barbera d'Alba Piani, Barbaresco, Barbaresco Vanotu, Grignolino, Favorita,Freisa and Nebbiolo.

It takes passion, commitment to the land and hard work in the vineyards and cellar, to always endeavour to make high quality wines, the only way we know to get real satisfaction. Research in the vineyards and, successively, in the cellar never stops here, and we hope that this will bring about further improvements on our wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

This is a great example of Mendoza Malbec. Incredible color—could use it in an inkwell! Loads of spice and black cherry cola aromas with notes of cocoa. The berry flavors really pop on the palate as the wine has both good depth and very lively acidity that leads to an incredibly long finish. A bottom note of freshly brewed espresso keeps the mouth watering too. This one is a teenager at the moment, and should age very well (and not talk back when you don't give it the car keys!). Pairs well with foods such as venison or wild game, steak, pork, quail, all types of lamb, and medium-strong cheeses. A very flexible wine due to its concentration and balance.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Luca:

About Luca:

Laura Catena is a fourth generation winemaker who grew up in a traditional Argentine-Italian winemaking family in Mendoza. Laura splits her time between Mendoza and San Francisco, California, where she is an emergency physician, university professor and occasional tango dancer. Laura had the vision of creating a new breed of Argentine wines: small quantities, artisan quality, and true to their individual terroirs. A pioneer of small-grower relations in Mendoza, Laura's incredible, limited production wines come from some of Argentina's best fruit from low-yield, high-elevation, family-owned vineyards. The wines are named after her children - Luca, Dante and Nicola - and the background of the label is the McDermott coat of arms of her American husband, Daniel McDermott.

Winemaker's Notes:

2009 marks the first vintage for the inclusion of Lake County sourcing in our Ghost Pines Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Lake County contributed incredible ripe fruit and a generous mouthfeel and viscosity to the overall blend. Sonoma County vineyards supplied jammy dark fruits, and Napa County vineyards were instrumental in establishing the foundation for structure and density to support Sonoma County's fruit forward characteristics. The result is our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, which displays aromas and flavors of plums and blackberries, with layered notes of mocha, toasted pound cake and roasted nuts. This wine has superb complexity and an aging potential up to 3 years.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Ghost Pines:

About Ghost Pines:

Like the unharnessed, free-form, ghost-like tree with which it shares a name, Ghost Pines represents the long, rich, winemaking heritage of California's finest appellations. By departing from traditional single appellation grape sourcing, the Ghost Pines winemaker is able to craft consistently superior "Winemaker's Blend" wines which showcase the concentrated yet elegant flavor characters that come from the best growing regions in the state.

Winemaker's Notes:

Fasten your seat belts. This wine is going to take your senses for a ride. Big, bold aromas of rich black fruit and mocha mingle with hints of spice and soft vanilla. A core of intense, dark plum and cocoa rock the palate of this daring Zinfandel, while balanced acidity and lingering tannins add complexity, concentration and depth to the finish. Don't be bashful with your pairings. Be Brazin! Serve with slow roasted bone-in country pork ribs, grilled chili-rubbed flank steak, or pasta with Italian sausage and black olives.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Brazin:

About Brazin:

Brazin is where old and new worlds collide. Lodi, one of the oldest California wine growing regions, is now home to some of the newest wine making technology. The result is a Zinfandel that is so bold, so intense, that it is dangerously good.

Winemaker's Notes:

At first sight the deep, intense ruby red color of the wine is striking, with small violet arches. The bouquet suggests red fruit, rose petals and hints of wet spices. It is soft and warm to the palate with notes of red prune, cherry and blueberry which are harmoniously intertwined around a lively tannic theme. Being fruit of an exceptional harvest, gives it a full, enveloping body, which finishes with liquorice and cloves. The fine performance is completed with an after-taste of black pepper and cranberry. This wine may be drunk immediately or laid down for 5 years. It is ideal to accompany pasta timbale, lamb stew, char-grilled cod and seasoned, pecorino cheese. Drink immediately or keep for 5 years too.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Fattoria La Valentina:

About Fattoria La Valentina:

La Valentina owns and rents a total of 30 hectares of vineyards at 200 to 300 metres altitude in the rolling Abruzzo hills, just inland from the port of Pescara on the Adriatic coast.

The area benefits from a special microclimate, taking advantage of cool breezes from the mountains and the maritime winds from the Adriatic.

The vineyards are impeccable, on clay and gravel soil, they are managed like a well kept market garden. Yields are low and harvesting by hand carries on until late October achieving optimum ripeness.

The results are remarkable with intense rich red wines that have oceans of fruit, bright rich black fruit flavours, as well as enough spice, elegance and depth to make them ideal partners to many Italian dishes ... especially pastas and risottos.

Winemaker's Notes:

62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc.

This supple Bordeaux blend was created by the legendary Mike Dobrovic as a tribute to Boes ("Bushy" in Afrikaans), the loyal dog who kept watch over Mulderbosch farm for nearly three years after his owner's death, waiting beneath an oak tree for the return of his beloved master. Enticing aromas of blackcurrant, mulberry, coffee, and spice lead to intense flavors of ripe plum, blackberry, and licorice enhanced by signature Bordeaux notes of tobacco, forest floor and graphite.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Mulderbosch:

Additional wines from La Maialina:

About La Maialina:

La Maialina celebrates the history, culture and cuisine of Chianti, prized since antiquity for its rich soil and favorable climate. Rolling hillsides lend themselves to the optimal cultivation of the Sangiovese grape, ripening to perfection during the dry, warm summers. The La Maialina wines express the essence of Tuscany and the tradition of quality that defines this historic region. The name La Maialina (little pig) references the Cinta Senese heirloom breed that originated in the Siena area during the 1300’s and is the only Tuscan native pig to survive extinction. Produced by the revered Attilio Pagli, La Maialina Chianti, Chianti Classico, and Chianti Classico Riserva are crafted to express the essence of the territory and tradition of quality of this historic region. Settled first by Etruscan then the Romans, the earliest documentation of a “Chianti wine” dates back to the 13th century when viticulture was known to flourish in the “Chianti Mountains” around Florence. The Chianti denomination was first delimited in 1932 by ministerial decree and its boundaries have remained unchanged.

Super sexy and spicy on the nose with aromas of apricots, blueberries, Bing cherries, blood oranges, gingerbread, white pepper, sweet Eastern spices, violets, tea and sweet pipe tobacco. In the mouth, the wine has refreshing acidity with silky tannins and rich flavors mirroring the aromatics. The 2009 A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir restrains power while balancing richness and purity with a clean and refreshing finish. Classically proportioned and built for midterm aging, the wine will continue to build weight and structure with cellaring.
My Notes:

Additional wines from A to Z:

About A to Z:

Founded in 2002, A to Z Wineworks is Oregon's fastest growing winery. The business model is simple: to produce and market Oregon's best wine values by concentrating on their core competencies of acquisition, blending and marketing.

A to Z has a bargain with other wineries from whom they source wines that they will not reveal their identities; component wines could be from any winery in Oregon from A to Z. This winery wanted a name that suggested that their wines are blended from many sources. A to Z builds their blends to craft balanced wines that aim to embody the essence of Oregon rather than reflect a specific single vineyard or A to Z style.
