Additional wines from Falesco:

About Falesco:

In 2006, our customers purchased more bottles of wine from Falesco than from any other winery in the world! And it's no wonder, as this winery makes some of the top value wines in Italy, if not the world. Falesco's most popular wine is Vitiano, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese grown in Umbria. This is a perennial must-buy: It's lush and fruity, and always seems to garnish outstanding scores from the wine critics.

Falesco was founded in 1979 by Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, brothers that also happen to be two of Italy's most acclaimed winemakers. Their philosophy is to strike a balance between the uniqueness of native Italian varieties and the versatility of more "international" grapes. As evidenced by the enormous popularity of their wine and the countless worldwide accolades they have received, they have clearly succeeded in achieving their goal. Salute!

About Cadran de Fombrauge:

The history of Fombrauge realizes the genesis of great wines in St. Emilion. The acquisition of Fombrauge in March 1999 by Bernard Magrez gave the vintage a boost in terms of product quality by bringing the rigor of expertise.

The heart of an area of 75 hectares, 52 planted to date, is beautifully situated on a limestone plateau. The vineyard possesses the three main soil profiles of Saint-Emilion, producing wines of great finesse.

A bright ruby red color. Fine and discrete nose with aromas of red fruits, The mouth feel is pleasant, followed by an aromatic and fruity evolution. The end is supple and pleasant. A delightful wine. Serve with poultry or cheese.
My Notes:

About Baugier:

In the unique terroir of St. Emilion, Merlot predominates, but it’s always married into the Cabernet family to bring forth a regal, rich, complex and oaky taste. Don’t mistake Baugier St. Emilion for common, oversoft Merlot blends; its genius lies in combining supple, sumptuous fruitiness with the backbone necessary for great wine. You’ll enjoy the deep ruby colour, the generous aromas and flavors of berry fruit with subtle floral and mineral overtones.

Winemaker's Notes:

60% Merlot with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

The vines are on the plains, between Bolgheri and the town of La California. Temperature-controlled fermentation, manual punch-down and pumpovers. Aged one year in barrique and a minimum of six months in bottle. The wine has a warm, deep purplish-red color and aromas of Mediterranean wood. Its flavors of wild berries and juicy ripe cherries are balanced by spice notes, and an elegant structure and mellow mouthfeel.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Aia Vecchia:

About Aia Vecchia:

Aia Vecchia is the name of an old building which is today the centre of a company deep in the Tuscany countryside between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci. This is an area where the particularly favorable microclimate and ideally suited soils make possible the production of very high quality wines. The particular position gives the vines very much light, both direct sunlight as sunlight reflected by the sea. This in general allows an early harvest.

The property consists of 69 hectars of open ground: 48 are vineyards, 30 of which are under the Bolgheri DOC. The planted varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are used to produce Lagone and Sor Ugo. In the cellar situated in Castagneto Carducci there are 2000 barriques.

The Morellino di Scansano is produced in the estate of Magliano in Toscana (Grosseto) which consists of 10 hectares planted with Sangiovese and Merlot grape varieties.

An elegant nose of small red berry fruit opening into ginger spice with supple tannins. You will feel raspberry aromas followed by rich cherry and blackcurrant flavors with vanilla on the finish. A fruity and well balanced wine with great length.
My Notes:

About Château Graves de Peyroutas:

Located four kilometres south of Saint-Emilion, in the commune of Vignonet, Château Quercy owned its name to the several-hundred year old live oak trees which border it. “Quercus” is Latin for “oak”. Originally the hunting lodge of a wealthy man from Libourne, Château Quercy was later owned by a family from Bordeaux for several generations before passing into the hands of the Apelbaum-Pidoux family in 1988. The château was built in the late 18th century in a neoclassical style very much the fashion at the time. The main building is flanked by two octagonal towers and the façade features pediments and mouldings typical of the Directoire style. A third tower on the roof overlooks the estate and surrounding countryside, including the church tower in Saint-Emilion.
